World of Warcraft’s big patch 10.0 is coming in October, Dragonflight’s release in November – that’s the promise of a leak that seems credible.
There is a fear among many players in the World of Warcraft community that WoW: Dragonflight will be released too early. When it was said a few months ago that Dragonflight would still be released in 2022, skepticism was high. But it seems that we don’t even have to wait until December, but can already start in November – the pre-patch is supposed to come even earlier.
What does the leak say? According to the leak, pre-patch 10.0, which adds the new talent system and Dragonflight’s other functionalities to the game, will go live as early as October 25, 2022 (for us, that would be October 26) – just over 2 months from now.
The official release of Dragonflight would then be on November 28, 2022 – so in just over 3 months.
This would mean that there would be a rather long “pre-patch” phase of 5 weeks, during which players can already play with the new talent system and very likely even try out the new Dracthyr already.
The release already in November- can this fit? The leak sounds plausible.
Where does the leak come from? The leak is said to be an internal document. The image (via wowhead) first made the rounds in the World of Warcraft subreddit and was later also picked up by community sites like wowhead and discussed in great detail. The exact origin of the image and an associated “leaker” do not exist – the original image in the subreddit has since been deleted. The fact that there is no named leaker is not unusual, though, because such information is usually under lock and key, and those who share such documents beforehand often risk their jobs.
The leak gets credibility mainly because it appeared a few hours before the release of the Wrath of the Lich King Classic schedule and already correctly predicted the date of the pre-patch for it – August 30. Since this happened before Blizzard’s official announcement, at least this statement is correct and gives the whole leak much more credibility.
In an earlier interview, WoW’s game director, Ion Hazzikostas, had indeed said that they were targeting a duration of 2 weeks for the pre-patch, however, this may well have changed. After all, the Dracthyr in the Dragonflight alpha have only recently received legendary Shadowlands items. This indicates that the developers are planning to keep the Dracthyr in Shadowlands for quite a while.
However, please keep in mind that this could still be a fake that was just a good guess – that’s always the danger with leaks of this nature.
How likely is this? Even though the release date sounds quite early now, the date could make sense. A release in late November would have the advantage that the first raid and dungeon – Season can already start in mid-December and the developers would still have around 10 days to add bug fixes and patches. If the release were to take place during the “vacation – Season “, i.e. over Christmas and New Year’s, this would on the one hand cause resentment among professional players who “have to” raid over the holidays and on the other hand tie up many developers at Blizzard who would also not be able to get home.
However, we will probably only find out if the leak is true in the coming weeks, when Dragonflight’s alpha moves into beta and an official release date is finally set.
What do you think about this leak? Do you believe this date or is it too unlikely?
