A well-known CoD leaker has given the first hints about the campaign of Call of Duty, which will be released in 2024.
Modern Warfare 2 hasn’t even been released yet and already there are first leaks about CoD 2024. Will the Call of Duty planned for the year after next link real historical events with its single player campaign for the first time again? We’ll tell you what these events are and what two skyscrapers have to do with them.
It gets sandy
Should CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope is correct, the campaign of Call of Duty, which is planned for 2024, will not only be historical again, but also sandy. According to him, the campaign will deal with “Operation Enduring Freedom” and “Operation Iraqi Freedom”, among other things. So far, there are hardly any further details on how the campaign will be embedded in the historical events.
It wouldn’t be the first foray into Afghanistan for Call of Duty, though. Already in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) we were allowed to shoot at each other on the multiplayer map “Afghan”. Call of Duty: Black Ops II also took us to the Hindu Kush, but it was based on the ten-year conflict between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan.

According to the information from TheGhostOfHope, the campaign also deals with time before the war. So it’s possible that the events of September 11 will be part of the campaign. Furthermore, he suspects that Treyarch will take over the development, which already gained experience with at least partially real events with the Black Ops games.
COD2024’s campaign will cover ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ & ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’.
History lesson for Gen-Z
For those of you too young to remember, as an old Millennial, I’ll flip open my history book and give you a crash course in American “foreign policy” between 2001 and 2014.
In direct response to the September 11 attacks, the U.S. declared a “war on terror” and launched major military operations against Afghanistan and Iraq. While the conflict in Afghanistan became known as “Operation Enduring Freedom,” American soldiers fought in what was already the second Iraq war in their history in “Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
The war in Afghanistan was mainly to fight the Islamist terrorist network Al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden, who were responsible for the September 11 attacks. The U.S. attack on Iraq, on the other hand, which violated international law, was justified by the claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, none of which have been found to date.
Whether we as players will end up chasing phantom weapons of mass destruction or the developers will rewrite history a bit remains to be seen.
