Many leagues and teams are expected to be in FIFA 23 in the 2022 World Cup year. It is the last joint title between EA Sports and the World Football Association.
FIFA 23 is once again expected to feature many top leagues. EA Sports has confirmed, despite a soon to be changed name, that over 300 licenses will continue to be housed in the game. As a result, there will be “access to more than 19,000 players across 700 teams, 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world.” For the last FIFA title of its kind, it is said to have the greatest variety ever.

Long-term partnerships in 2023 remain mainly with the best European leagues. “Included in this are exclusive partnerships with the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, MLS – and there will be more,” officials say. Accordingly it is obvious from past contracts and from a business point of view that the mentioned leagues are also licensed in FIFA 23. Exceptions will only be made for some Italian clubs, but the name Juventus Torino might appear again.
Women leagues for the first time in FIFA
Although women’s national teams have been around since FIFA 16, national women’s leagues haven’t played a role in EA Sports’ titles until now. That is set to change in FIFA 23, according to Tom Henderson. The journalist and insider, who is considered a trustworthy source, leaked the debut of the women’s national league, among other things, back in February.
In addition to the Women’s Bundesliga, the top leagues from England, USA and France are also expected to be available in FIFA 23. It would fit EA Sports’ strategy, as with expanding licenses the company wants to create a unique FIFA experience that brings men and women together. However, EA Sports has yet to officially confirm the new leagues.
- FA Women`s Super League (England)
- Women`s Bundesliga (Germany)
- National Women`s Soccer League (USA)
- Division 1 Féminine (France)
For the Men’s World Cup 2022 in Qatar as well as for the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand there will be additional World Cup modes in FIFA 23. Also this information comes from sources of Tom Henderson and has yet to be confirmed officially.
Mexican and Japanese league probably not in FIFA 23
The Mexican top league BBVA MX will most likely be missing in FIFA 23. This is because on February 4, the federation announced a partnership with EA competitor Konami and its game eFootball. As a result, all clubs and players from the Mexican league will be lost, insofar as individual ones of them are not introduced in the “Rest of the World” category.
According to the insider “Witcher” the same scenario will happen for the highest Japanese league J1 League: “After six years the J League and EA Sports will end their partnership. FIFA 23 we will not include the league.” Among the partners of the J1 League Konami is listed, but EA Sports is not.
However, no exclusive partnership with Konami and eFootball has been announced yet, so the J1 League could still appear in FIFA 23 sooner than BBVA MX does. Also uncertain is a resumption of the Russian league and clubs. Because of the Ukraine conflict EA Sports has removed all teams including players of the Premjer League and the national team from FIFA 22.
All World Cup teams allegedly playable in FIFA 23
Last year, EA Sports removed 17 national teams from the game, including those of Switzerland and Turkey. EA Sports did not give a clear reason for this. Rights negotiations are complex, it said, among other things. Accordingly, there is no guarantee in advance whether certain national teams or leagues will be back or even return in FIFA 23. Leaks there are nevertheless with justified assumption. This is related to the World Cup mode in the upcoming title.
