Prestige skins we actually see all the time, but how do you get them and how much do they cost? We’ll take a closer look at that today.
League of Legends has a variety of skin lines and skins, but some of them stand out. There are Legacy Skins, Epic Skins, Ultimate Skins and Legendary Skins, but there are also the Prestige Skins in LoL.
But what are Prestige Skins? How do you get these golden skins? Well, let’s take a closer look at that in this article. Everything you need to know about LoL Prestige Skins, right here!
What are Prestige Skins?
Prestige Skins take existing skins and breathe a golden touch into them. They are meant to look prestigious – hence the name Prestige – and players often get the skin for their favorite champion.
How do you earn prestige skins?
In order for you to earn LoL Prestige Skins, you need to save up for them. So when you see your favorite champion getting both a new skin and a Prestige Edition, you need to earn some mythical essence.
You do that either with missions, event tokens or by buying Prestige points. We’ll take a look at that in more detail so you can get the Prestige Edition of your favorite champion as soon as possible!
Riot has decided to change the Prestige system this year. It looks like Prestige Points will be retired then. Instead, Riot will introduce a new currency called mythic essence, which players can use to buy Prestige skins and also pick up older Prestige skins in a special store.
What is mythic essence?
As mentioned earlier, mythical essence will be the new currency that will replace both prestige points and gems. Therefore, players will only have to worry about one mythical currency in League of Legends.
Can prestige skins be earned with Loot?
In the future, prestige skins will no longer be earnable with Loot. Riot has decided to introduce a dedicated mythic store where players can use mythic essence to purchase skins, chests and more. In this store, players will also be able to buy older prestige skins.
Prestige skins will therefore be available exclusively in the mythic store, so you won’t be able to obtain prestige skins through loot pools, which include rerolls.
However, if you have an old Event Orb or capsule that has a chance of containing exclusive mythic content, this won’t change. However, new capsules will no longer contain exclusive content.
How to earn Prestige Points
Buy Masterwork Chest Bundles
One way to get mythical essence in League of Legends is with Masterwork Chest Bundles. You can buy Masterwork Chests in the store under ‘Loot’ for 165 RP – Riot Points. However, only one chest will not get you mythic essence.
To get mythical essence, you need to buy a whole bundle of Masterwork Chests. This usually includes the chest, a key, and the mythic essence. Depending on which bundle you afford, you will be awarded a different amount of mythic essence.
Through in-game events
Through Riot Games in-client events, you can also earn mythic essence for the Prestige Edition skin of your dreams. By completing missions, players earn event tokens. How do you know which missions to do? Easy, just check the client on the bottom right between the chat and the microphone icon.
If you click on this icon, you will see the missions of the current event. Completing these missions guarantees you Event Tokens, which you can exchange for Prestige Points at the end of the In-Client Event.
With Event Tokens
You can also get an event-specific skin by trading in event tokens. In most events, a champion gets an event prestige skin. For example, Nightbringer Kayn was released with a Prestige Edition skin.
By purchasing the Nightbringer and Dawnbringer Event Pass, players could complete missions – either by winning a few matches or playing a certain number of games. For each completed mission, they were rewarded with Event Tokens, which they could find in their loot afterwards.
There, players decide what they want to buy with their Event Tokens. If you managed to get the Prestige Skin Edition of Nightbringer Kayn, congratulations!
How to earn Prestige Skins starting in 2022
With the introduction of a new currency, Riot has turned the way players can earn exclusive Prestige Skins inside out. So, we’re going to briefly go over the different ways you can earn Prestige Skins and Mythic Essence!
Showcase Milestones
Showcase Milestones are a way for you to earn your favorite Prestige Skins in 2022. Special events like PROJECT or Battle Academia from last year change from Prestige Point bundles to a reward track (similar to TFT) that progresses as you open event capsules. Skins are unlocked exclusively at the end of the progression track. After that, they go off to the vault and will eventually reappear in the Mythic Shop.
The Showcase Milestone Track will give you the same amount of loot as if you had previously earned 100 Prestige Points through Capsules and Bundles. However, there are now loot rewards as well.
Masterwork Milestones
Masterwork Milestones are an infinitely repeatable reward track for opening Masterwork Chests. So keep buying them to earn mythic essence and get these exclusive skins in the future.
Event Pass
In the future, Riot plans to continue offering a token store, but implemented into a Battle Pass system. Players will gain experience by playing games, earning points through missions, and unlocking tokens and other rewards.
Here are some examples of missions and Battle Pass routes:
- Free Event Missions: Converted to rewards for free pass stretches. Still includes 300 tokens and an Event Orb, plus other extra content. You will receive all free rewards up to level 30.
- Token Bank Missions: Convert to paid pass-route rewards at each level. After completing all 50 event pass stages, there is an infinitely repeatable “51st” stage for pass holders that grants tokens.
- Milestone Missions: Converted to paid pass route rewards.
- Weekly Victory Missions: Now grant XP instead of tokens. Stack with rewards for first win of the day.
- (NEW) Free First Win of the Day Missions: Earn pass XP each day for your first win (or 3 matches played). As usual, this is a use-it-or-lose-it model. So you can’t stack multiple missions for the first win of the day.
You will be able to redeem the tokens in an event store as before. However, Riot will improve the store’s interface, which means you’ll be able to browse and find what you want to buy more easily.
How do you use mythic essence?
So, you’ve already got yourself some Masterwork Chest bundles and now you’re swimming in mythic essence? Well then, it’s time to spend that hard earned dough! You’re really eyeing that Duality Dragon Volibear Prestige Skin Edition, eh? To get it, you’ll need to click on ‘Loot’ in the top right corner of your LoL client.
Once there, you’ll see everything you’ve earned so far: The Masterwork Chests, Keys, a few Skin Shards, Gems, Orange Essence and, of course, the Mythic Essence. Click on the mythical essence and every Prestige Edition skin you can acquire will be displayed.
Then you just have to choose which one you want, press ‘Forge’ and now you’ll be the lucky owner of a Prestige skin.
Do mythic essences expire?
Mythic essence, like gems and unlike prestige points, does not expire. This means that you can hoard as much mythic essence as you want and for as long as you want.
However, it is important to know that when you convert Prestige Points to Mythic Essence, your Prestige Points cannot be converted to Mythic Essence. For this reason, there will be a last-minute Prestige Shop for those who still have Prestige Points in their inventory.
Do Prestige Points expire?
Note: As of patch 12.06, Prestige Points will no longer be redeemable for mythic content.
Yes, Prestige Points do expire. Normally you can’t hold your Prestige Points for more than a year, but Riot Games has made an exception here for 2020 and 2021. At the end of the year, each player’s earned Prestige Points will be reset.
The idea behind Prestige Skins, according to Riot Games IamCarlos, Lead Producer of Skins and Personalization, was to make the skins ‘rare’ and ‘coveted’.
Prestige Skins is about taking existing skins and increasing their rarity as well as popularity by using expensive looking (and often glittery!) materials in the model.
To prevent your Prestige Points from expiring, Riot usually releases a Prestige Shop at the end of the year where players can make last-minute purchases for Prestige Skins.

Champion skin
Champion skin (or skin for short) refers to the color scheme or appearance of a champion. Most champion skins can be purchased in the Riot Shop with Riot Points, while others are/were only available for special events/promotions. However, some selected chroma skins (color-changed skins)can be purchased at special events for Blue Essence. Some champion skins bring new particles for visual effects, quotes, and sound effects. Each skin has its own splashart, which is displayed in the champion selection and loading screen. Since patch 7.16, the custom champion image is also matched to the skin in the game itself.
What is actually… “League of Legends”?
“League of Legends is one of the most successful esports titles in the world. But what is it actually about? And what makes the game so popular? An explanation for beginners.
What is League of Legends (“LoL”) about?
In a classic game of “League of Legends,” two teams each have five characters called champions, each with individual characteristics. The main goal of each team is to destroy the opponent’s Nexus (the main building). Before this can be attacked, however, several defenses must be torn down on at least one of the three central level routes (lanes). Similar to “Dota 2”, the heroes receive continuous support on their campaign from AI-controlled units called minions. They storm the battlefield at regular intervals and independently attack enemies or enemy buildings – but only on the three main paths of the map. Those who roam around in the surrounding jungle will have to do without minion help. As usual in the MOBA genre, the champions reach higher levels by collecting experience points. In the course of the match, they learn numerous new abilities. Provided they have enough gold, the player can also strengthen himself with new equipment. Each of the 141 hero characters that the player can currently choose from is assigned to one of six classes. Warriors can deal out a lot of damage, tanks take a lot of punishment, mages have powerful special abilities, and supporters can, among other things, replenish the mana energy of allies or heal their comrades-in-arms.
