LoL Patch 11.2 is out and with it comes the newest League of Legends champion – also the first of 2021. Viego, the Ruined King will not only be available in League of Legends, but he’s also coming to many other platforms and even getting his own game in Ruined King – a League of Legends Story.
Now that the new Jungle Skirmisher is here, you’ll want to play him too. But what do his abilities even do and what runes work best with him? We take a quick look at what the new champion can do!
P – Sovereign’s Domain: His passive lets him take possession of slain champions for a short time. When he is in possession of someone, Viego can use their abilities and gains extra movement speed. This is a great ability to use, especially if you manage to possess the enemy Carry Champion.
Q – Blade of the Ruined King: Viego thrusts his sword in the direction of the target, dealing physical damage. This ability also has a passive ability that marks enemies. When he hits marked enemies with attacks, he consumes the mark and hits them twice while healing himself.
W – Spectral Maw: This is his CC ability. It charges up and slows Viego down, but as soon as it is used again, he lunges forward and stuns the enemy he hits. This will be the main ability he uses when ganking enemies. But beware. You can’t dash through walls with it.

E – Harrowed Path: The ability lets Viego jungle in peace. It creates a trail of black fog that wraps around structures, similar to Qiyana’s Ultimate, except this fog cloaks Viego and increases his movement and attack speed. It is important to note, however, that an attack will cancel the cloaking.
R – Heartbreaker: Viego races towards the champion with the lowest health, knocking back all other champions and dealing damage based on the amount of health they lack. EZ. GG.
Viego can have different builds depending on what you want from him. Precision runes are probably the most commonly chosen, and Conqueror along with Triumph, as well as Legend: Alacrity and Coup de Grace. These are the default runes for Bruiser and AD Duelists, as they give extra damage when Viego fights for Jungle Objectives in small skirmishes.
But as mentioned earlier, this isn’t the only build available for him. If you choose the Domination rune path with Dark Harvest, Viego becomes a late-game assassin who can take down enemies with ease in one shot.
Of course, if your team needs a stronger tank, the Resolve Rune Path with Grasp of the Undying is also a good choice. It all depends on the matchups and what is needed from Viego.
Be sure to take fights slowly, as Viego is a LoL champion who prefers small skirmishes rather than large team fights. Also note that you take the champion with the highest damage output from the opposing team with your passive. You want to do as much damage as possible with your possessions.
