Vex is going to be a very popular pick in the solo cue in the coming weeks. Not only because she is finally a new AP mid laner out, but because she is the perfect counter for any champion with a Dash. We took a look at Vex and the best for the mid laner Yordle for you!

Vex Build: Runes and Items

Vex is the newest champion, so her perfect build is still being tested! These runes currently work best:

  • Keystone: Electrocute
  • Taste of Blood
  • Eyeball Collection
  • Ultimate Hunter

Electrocute is the best rune if you want to play short burst trades in the lane. All of Vex’s spells can trigger Electrocute and with her range she always has a proc especially against immobile melees. Taste of Blood is useful for sustain and Ultimate Hunter reduces the cooldown of her Ulti.

In the Second Tree, her Sorcery goes with these runes:

  • Manaflow Band
  • Transcendence

Vex has some mana issues in the early game, which is why we recommend Manaflow Band. To trigger Electrocute as often as possible, we also recommend Transcendence for the extra Ability haste.

For items, we recommend either Ludens Tempest or Liandry’s Anguish as a mythic. Liandry’s you build against Tanky Teams, Ludens against Squishys. So everything is the same as with any other Mid Lane Mage.

Since Vex engages opponents with her Ultimate and therefore gets into Melee Range, Zhonyas is a key item in her build to enable many of her plays. However, if the opposing team has no Assassins, you can opt for Horizon Focus in second place.

Vex Champion Guide: Early Game

Depending on the match-up, the laning phase can go two ways. If you’re playing against a champion with long range, you’re likely to get pushed into the tower. Vex especially has trouble when her opponents out-ran her!

If you’re playing against a Melee, you can constantly poke them out of the lane with the Q. If you know your Jungler is nearby, you can also use their E to slow opponents down and then use Q to set them up for the perfect gank combo.

Their W is their only escape tool! So don’t waste it until you know where the enemy jungler is. If you do get ganked, use your Passive to counter his Dash and fear him. Vex has a pretty high base damage, which gives her a lot of poke on the lane. Try to constantly hit your combos and enemy Melee Mid-Laner won’t stand a chance against you.

Vex Champion Guide: Mid and Late Game

Once you have your Ludens Tempest and your second item, you’ll be dealing some serious damage and you’ll be ready to jump into fights. You play Vex in teamfights a bit like Zoe or Leblanc. You deal poke damage and wait for the perfect target for your Engage – in this case, the Vex Ult.

The Vex is a reset champion, which means you can reactivate your Ult once you’ve killed an opponent hit with the Ultimate. The Ultimate can be reactivated as many times as you want until all enemies are dead, or time runs out. So with Vex, pretty cool plays are possible that will leave the SoloQ pretty toxic. After all, we all love our awesome reset champs….

  • Heard about the new LoL series on Netflix?

With Vex, though, you’re still a Squishy Mage and have nothing to stop opponents from catching you except for your Zhonyas and Fear. So always stay behind your tanks and only ulte when the perfect opportunity presents itself.

Vex Champion Guide: Good and Bad Matchups

Vex is finally the long awaited counter to all the dash champs that have taken over the current meta. Thanks to her anti-dash mechanic, she is a direct counter to champions like Yasuo. Assassins will probably have a little less fun in Rift in the near future.

Bad matchups for Vex are ranged champions like Xerath, who simply outran them. The weak lane sets Vex back a lot and it’s hard to get back into the game.

We hope you have fun with the newest champion in League of Legends and hope you were able to learn something from this Vex Champion Build Guide. Let us know in our Discord how you did with Vex!
