In almost every region, things are a little different when it comes to the playoffs. Often, even the regular – Season s are played out in different ways. Here we show you how the LEC organized the playoffs.

As usual, six teams ended up in the playoffs. The well-known regulars like Rogue or Fnatic are back in the starting lineup, but with Excel Esports a surprise candidate has also made it into the playoffs! Not bad. Here you have a list of all playoff teams in the LEC, as they finished the regular – Season . Memorize it well, it will be very important later!

How do the playoffs work in the LEC?

A few people have really come up with something – you can’t immediately see through it. Of course, that doesn’t mean the playoffs have been unnecessarily complicated; there are some interesting approaches to this playoff format. Let’s take a look:

• The top 6 teams from the regular – Season participate in the playoffs, there are two tournament trees and three rounds
  • The top 4 teams start in the winner’s tournament tree
  • 1st place of the regular – Season gets to play against 3rd or 4th place
  • 5th and 6th place teams compete in the loser tournament tree
  • Best-of-5 matches are played in each round

Are you still with us? Very good. What’s cool is that the winning team from the regular – Season gets to decide if they want to play the third or fourth place team. This year, that’s Misfits Gaming. Of course, giving Rogue the choice of who they want to face first in this case adds some spice! What would be laughed at if Rogue’s choice goes to shit, Misfits beats them, and G2 flies out against Fnatic? So deciding whether to be a team from No. 1 against – No. 3 or – No. 4 isn’t as easy as first thought. Very well – let’s move on!

• The winning teams from Match 1 and 2 in the winner’s tournament tree play each other in Round 2, with the winner advancing to the finals
• Losing teams from Match 1 and 2 fall into the loser tournament tree
  • The team that was ranked lower in the regular – Season plays the winner from round 1 of the loser tournament tree (either 5th or 6th place) in round 2
    • The team that was ranked higher in the regular – Season then plays against the winner from that match
• In round 3 there is only one match
  • The team that lost the match in round 2 in the winner’s tournament tree will play the winning team of the loser’s tournament tree in the semifinals
  • The final will be played by:
    • The winning team of the semifinal
    • The winning team from round 2 of the winners’ tournament tree

How fast or how slow is the way to the cup?

It’s simple – the teams from the winning tournament tree have the best chance of making it to the finals quickly. With a win in Round 1 and 2, either Misfits, Rogue, G2 or Fnatic has secured their spot in the finals.

For the teams from the loser tournament tree, it is definitely the hardest. They have to play four matches, and win all of them, to make it to the finals. So – no easy task for Excel or Vitality. Also having to play four games would be the lowest ranked team in the regular – Season that lost in round 1 of the winners tournament tree. It falls into the loser tournament tree and must win the remaining three games.
