Teamfight Tactics, the game from the Auto-Chess genre by Riot Games, is gaining more and more popularity. But what makes the game special, how does it work, and what is the best way to learn TFT? We will explain this and much more in this series.
Whether on the computer, smartphone or tablet. Teamfight Tactics can now be found everywhere. The game from the League of Legends universe is playable via the LoL client itself. In addition to the integrated version, you can also download TFT from all app stores – for a relaxed game to go. And we tell you, it’s worth taking a look.
Starting a new game like TFT can quickly become demotivating. Others may have been playing for weeks or even months and now you’re standing there and supposed to compete with them? Quite unfair at first glance and where is the best place to start? How do you learn the game? With us, from Earlygame, of course!
The basics
Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have some prior knowledge of the LoL universe. But the good thing is, they are not mandatory – we promise! We’ll start with you at the very beginning, don’t worry.
Teamfight Tactics is a strategic auto-chess game. You compete as one of 8 players and fight turn-based in arenas – or much more let your champions fight for you. If you win, you drain health from your opponent’s little legend depending on how many of your champions have survived and what level you are (but more on that later). If you lose, life points will be deducted accordingly. If you have no life points left, you will be kicked out of the game. The goal is, of course, to be the last survivor. In principle, however, it is enough to end up among the top 4!
The Little Legends
The Little Legends are the game characters that you can choose. They accompany you throughout the game and are like your avatar. They level up during the game and receive or cause damage after a battle is won or lost. The Little Legends have 100 health points at the beginning. Besides the rounds against real players, there are also so-called PvE rounds. These are battles against monsters. If you can take down the creatures, which get stronger and stronger in the course of the game, then you get Loot Orbs. Collect them with your Little Legend to get gold, champions or item components.
Gold and Items
There are two main resources available to you in the game. Gold and items. If League of Legends is an old acquaintance, you already know both. However, the whole thing works a bit differently in Auto-Chess.
Gold
Gold is very important! You need it to buy better champions or to improve your current ones. Dealing with the income has to be learned. Here are a few quick facts:
- You get gold automatically at the end of each round. It represents your income and depends on several things:
- Standard income is 5 gold. For every 10 gold you have saved at the end of a round, you get another gold. This goes up to a maximum of 5 gold extra, which corresponds to a bank balance of 50 gold. So if you ever save diligently, you can spend anything over 50 gold without loss of income.
- If you win or lose a series, you can earn an additional 3 gold: 2-3 wins/losses in a row bring +1 gold; 4 wins bring +2 gold and if you even reach a series of 5, you get a whopping +3 gold:
- Defeat your opponent in around and you’ll get 1 gold.
Items
In team fight Tactics, there are several items from League of Legends. Before we list all the possible combinations here, we’d rather give you a compact item spreadsheet that you should definitely use for your first games.
Each item from TFT consists of 2 components. As you can see, there are various combinations to create strong items from the components. The crafting always works, even while your champions are already fighting. This may seem like a lot now, but the combinations are quickly learned. Just think of it like champions and their abilities or items in LoL. After all, you had to learn that too.
Items are to be considered as a second resource next to gold. You should already have a rough plan after the first few PvE rounds on what kind of items you want to craft to strengthen your champions. There are some very powerful items that can greatly influence the outcome of the rounds.
That’s it for the first part of the guide series. We hope you were able to get some important information about TFT. What else you need to know to play Teamfight Tactics, you will learn in the next part. There we will explain everything about the champions and the game interface.
