This guide will show you how to play Ezreal most efficiently and get your power spikes as quickly as possible. If you’re looking for a new pick that can poke enemy champions from a safe range, then Ezreal is the one for you.
Ezreal is one of the most popular champions in the lower line, simply because he is a lot of fun to play. Besides being fun, he is also extremely strong in the current meta and is regularly played or banned by pro players. His playstyle is fundamentally different from other ADCs because unlike standard ADCs, he has to play a lot with his abilities to be effective in fights.

Ezreal Champion Guide: Early Game
The early game is Ezreal’s clear weakness. Minions make it difficult for him to hit enemy champions with his abilities. Accordingly, it would be optimal to try to push the Wave. This way, the opponents lose their protection and can be poked much stronger.
Of course, it is not possible to push the Minions in every lane, as the support matchup plays a crucial role here. Aggressively using the E is very risky because it has a very high cooldown in the early game, making you very vulnerable to engages and ganks. Especially if you know that the opponent’s jungler can be on the botside, you should definitely save this spell.
- You probably already know that Divine Sunderer is mega good on Ezreal!
If you’re not sure if you can push your lane or not, you can easily play defensively with Ezreal and farm minions from a safe distance to move into mid-game as soon as possible.
Ezreal Champion Guide: Mid Game
Ezreal’s mid game, on the other hand, is very strong. Once he completes his first two items, it’s very difficult for opponents to get to him because once you put a few points into your E, the cooldown goes down very quickly and coupled with the Ability Haste you generate from the items, your mobility reaches new heights.
Now you can definitely stand more aggressively and try to hit Q’s on enemy champions. Our Champion Guide secret tip: Identify which champions have low healing abilities and try to hit them with your Qs. After 2-3 hits the opponent will have to go base and you can now take fights everywhere in superior numbers.
- Have you already seen the next LoL Champion? Oh and there might be a new Yordle soon!
Before important objectives, it’s important to understand that Ezreal doesn’t really have much DPS, especially if you miss a few Qs. Accordingly, explosive all-in engages are not really Ezreal’s forte. Instead, good vision and plenty of space between you and the enemy champions are much more enjoyable to play. You outranged just about every champion in the game and need to take advantage of that strength!
Ezreal Champion Guide: Late Game
Ezreal’s late game is still impressive. Even though his DPS is now significantly worse than other ADCs, his poke is also getting stronger. In addition, items like Frozen Heart make him even more tanky, making it even harder for opponents to burst you.
His mid-game playstyle remains mostly the same, he still wants to try to poke a lot and hit Q’s aggressively. However, the items now make it much easier to burst a target with a combo. Accordingly, the one or other aggressive Arcane Shift can provide a one-shot.
- Take a look at all the skins from June and May. How nice.
Fights are pretty easy for Ezreal to play in the late game. Often the plan should be to build up a lot of range to enemy tanks and bruisers and then hit them with Q’s. What is difficult, on the other hand, is for Ezreal to get into the backline, as he often doesn’t have enough damage for a one-shot without an E, but puts himself in too much danger with an aggressive E. So stay far back and try to play the fights from front to back.
Ezreal Champion Guide: Good and Bad Matchups
Although Ezreal has very few good and bad matchups on the lane, it’s mainly whole team compositions that can affect Ezreal a lot. For example, heals and shields are a big problem for Ezreal, especially in mid- and late-game, as they completely nullify his poke and thus take away his biggest strength.
Accordingly, champions like Yuumi, Soraka, and Sona are the worst support matchups for Ezreal. Also, Ezreal makes it pretty easy for the opponent to get through the laning phase. Accordingly, hyper-scaling ADCs like Aphelios, Sivir, Vayne, Kai’sa, and Kog’Maw are also pretty good against him.
Good matchups for Ezreal are champions that have low range and don’t really have many ways to get to Ezreal. Especially most bruisers and tanks like Olaf, Urgot, Renekton, Mordekaiser etc. are very reluctant to play against an Ezreal in mid-game. Accordingly, it is therefore important not necessarily to pay attention only to the Botlane matchup, but to all champions in the game and then use that to make the decision whether Ezreal is the right choice or not.
