You look in the item store and almost get an epileptic seizure? All the bonuses, Legendary, Mythics, you can’t keep track anymore? Do you just want to go back to “the old days” when Lee Sin could still buy Sightstone? It’s alright, we have prepared something for you: The League of Legends Item Guide series continues! We’ve already checked off the AD Midlanders, now we’re moving on to the topline. But don’t worry, with Eclipse you still stay damage-oriented.
You’re up for even more damage? Then take a look at our previous item guides:
- LoL Item Guide: Prowler’s Claw
- LoL Item Guide: Duskblade Of Draktharr
Eclipse (finally a name that doesn’t sound like word-bashing in German) is the third of our AD items that you can build on Assassins with a clear conscience. However, we are moving away from the midlane with Eclipse and towards the toplane or jungle. You’ll have at least some lifesteal with it, unlike Duskblade or Prowler’s Claw.
Eclipse Stats:
- Cost: 3200 Gold
- + 55 attack damage
- + 8% Omnivampire
- + 18 lethality factor
- Gold efficiency without passive ability: 72.9%
What can Eclipse do?
Eclipse’s Eternal Rising Moon passive gives you a shield and additional Movement Speed when you hit the enemy with two Autoattacks within 1.5 seconds. Additionally, the enemy takes 6% of their maximum life as damage. This has the following advantages for the topline:
Getting into the plane first? LoL Toplane Guide for Beginners
- You will often find yourself in matchups against tanks. These are played most often on the plane, where the 6% of maximum life is more effective.
- Champions that you can build eclipse on very well usually have some form of auto attack reset or can speed up their attack speed.
- The lane is long. At least in contrast to the middle. With the extra move speed, you’ll have no problem chasing after your victims. This will probably be necessary as well.
What champions is Eclipse good on?
If you want to use Eclipse’s passives properly, it’s best to build it on champions that have auto attack resets or buffs in their kit. As we said, this works best if you play top lane fighters, like Riven or Xin Zhao. However, in addition to this Eclipse Item Guide, we would also like to recommend our guide to Omnivampire and how it works.
In it you will be able to read that Omnivamp mostly replaces Lifesteal, but also works with magic damage and True Damage. So, especially with the very versatile item Eclipse, it is a stat you should not forget in League of Legends. The Mythic Item Passive also gives you Armor Penetration, which is always nice to have as an AD Champion.
What is Ngombe Ngulu?
The LoL item Eclipse is based on an old sword form of the Bantu called “Gombe lulu”. The Bantu are an African tribe that originated in the Congo Delta and are divided across the continent into many different sub-tribes with their own languages. The shape of the weapon was meant to be reminiscent of the ancient Egyptians, with a solid iron blade. Originally, knobs were to be attached to the handle of the weapon, which could be used to divide the blade into two parts. This is how it was used for executions. Nowadays, however, it is used only in ceremonies or similar.
Conclusion
If you feel a bit insecure on your Zed in the midline, shave with Jungle Xin Zhao or want to knock the topline Bruiser back sometimes, Eclipse is the item for you. The versatility makes it an all-rounder that isn’t designed to be a direct one-shot, but one that you can brawl with and still come away with some damage.
