Olaf
An unstoppable force of destruction, the axe-wielding Olaf Olaf wants nothing but to die in glorious combat. Hailing from the brutal Freljord Crest icon.png Freljordian peninsula of Lokfar, he once received a prophecy foretelling his peaceful passing—a coward’s fate, and a great insult among his people. Seeking death, and fueled by rage, he rampaged across the land, slaughtering scores of great warriors and legendary beasts in search of any opponent who could stop him. Now a brutal enforcer for the Freljord Winters Claw.png Winter’s Claw, he seeks his end in the great wars to come.
Early Life
Olaf grew up in the Freljord Crest icon.png Freljord in the region of Lokfar, where battle and death was common and happened frequently. Olaf was a warrior and would often boast about the many battles he fought and won. However, his demeanor and lack of hesitation to share his many stories would anger and annoy some in his tribe.
A Warrior’s Death
After boasting one night about one of his many battles, Olaf was confronted by an elder warrior who told him to prove his worth and see what his future held for him, how he would die, whether in battle or peacefully of old age. Olaf accepted and was angered when his fortune told of a long life and peaceful death. Determined to achieve a warrior’s death, Olaf traveled to battle a revered frost serpent who had slain thousands. However, the battle ended with the serpent slain and Olaf alive.
Olaf tried to find a warrior’s death against many creatures, but when he became enraged, nothing could hurt or stop him, and he found that he was able to defeat every single beast that he challenged. During his pursuits, he even tried to battle the ghost of a Krakenwyrm during a Harrowing at Bilgewater Crest icon.png Bilgewater. However, this endeavor only ended with the Krekenwyrm slain twice.
Resolving that no mere beast could beat him, Olaf decided to take on the Freljord Winters Claw.png Winter’s Claw, the most fearsome tribe in the Freljord. He battled and defeated their most fearsome warriors before battling Sejuani Sejuani herself. Their battle shook glaciers with its intensity until they reached a deadlock. Sejuani stared into Olaf’s soul with such intensity that his frenzy was quelled long enough for her to offer him a place in her tribe and the warrior’s death he had always hoped for.

During the period of Viego Viego’s Ruination, after almost being killed fighting Vex Vex, Olaf joined the Sentinels of Light in order to defeat Viego. He guided the Sentinels through the Freljord and returned to his normal life after Viego had been defeated.
With low resources and spread out forces, the Winter’s Claw are bracing for the coldest winter in many years. After gaining knowledge from a man who claimed to have drank from the Great Cauldron of Ornn, Sejuani resolved to invade the land of Volibear and steal the Cauldron from him. With newfound resolve, the Winter’s Claw continue to trudge on, battling the Ursine on their way through.
Appearance
Olaf is an abnormally large fair-skinned man with toned muscles and a large ginger beard. He often wears a metal helmet with two large horns and various furs around his torso, wrists, and feet. He wields two axes tempered with True Ice that he uses constantly in battle.
Personality
Irritable and easily angered, Olaf lives for nothing but the heat and rage of battle. A competent fighter and fierce warrior, he is never scared to go into a fight and, in fact, enjoys it. More than anything, he is determined to obtain nothing less than a warrior’s death fitting for as fierce a warrior as him.
Abilities
- Iceborn: Olaf has a rare magical alteration from birth, giving him a strong resistance to the cold of the Freljord and allowing him to be able to wield and manipulate both True Ice and Dark Ice. Olaf uses this power to wield his axes tempered with True Ice in battle.
- Fighter: Olaf is a competent fighter, having felled beasts, ghosts, and entire armies by himself in his lifetime.
- Rage: When threatened, Olaf is able to enter an adrenaline filled, rage-like state in which he gains a strong boost of strength and energy, along with a large resistance to pain. This ability may be magical in nature, although this has not been confirmed.
Ancient history
When the League of Legends was created to prevent further rune wars in Valoran, disputes over battles were settled on the Fields of Justice by having summoners there summon extraordinary beings called Champions to fight against each other. These champions joined the League for a variety of reasons. Some are soldiers loyal to a particular nation and dedicated to the nation’s interests, others are famous warriors who wish to test themselves against Valoran’s most powerful beings. Still others are prisoners of the League who are forced to participate as punishment. Lastly, there may be beings from other worlds who wish to bring stability or chaos to Runeterra. However, regardless of the champions’ reasons, they have all attracted the interest of the League of Legends.
To join the League, a potential champion, who must have previously proven that he or she possesses exceptional qualities, must travel to the War Academy and undergo a review. There, a selected summoner tests the champion’s spirit to reveal the opponent’s motives. In truth, motives have very little bearing on whether a champion is accepted. The real reason for the League review is to find out if an individual can open their mind to a summoner, allowing the two to form a mental bond and function as one.
Champions in battle
Riot Games is constantly developing new champions for League of Legends. Each champion has individual abilities and characteristics, which a summoner must use wisely. Some champions use pure strength and power, others rely on lethality and devious accuracy, while others use supernatural powers.
