At the end of 2020, the LoL MMORPG was officially announced. Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, the former lead designer of WoW, is behind the game. However, there is no official release date yet.

On Twitter, Ghostcrawler recently answered a question from user @/ElderwoodEndo. The latter tweeted, “I understand that we ourselves won’t be champions in the MMO, but can there be any connection to our favorite champion?” As an example, he mentions the champion Azir, whom he would like to have by his side in the MMORPG.

Ghostcralwer’s response offers us exciting news. He tweeted, “Champions are the foundation of our IP. They need to occur. Nevertheless, we have many of them and we have to do justice to all of them. It might take some time to have the favorite from each one”.

So the champions are definitely coming to the MMORPG. How exactly remains unclear. The developer only promises to put a lot of effort into them, which is why it might take a while until all champions are part of the game.

Info on the LoL MMORPG so far

What is this game? The MMORPG will be set in Runeterra, the same universe as League of Legends. However, it is not yet known what the battle system will look like and from which perspective you will look at the game. It would be possible to fight in the ISO perspective, like in LoL itself.

A first-person perspective can’t be ruled out either. Likewise a third-person view, like in WoW. The combat system could function as tab targeting, i.e. rather automatically, or as action combat like in ESO.

There are also initial statements about the game content. The LoL MMORPG will focus on dungeons and raids in the endgame. The raids are to be among the most important game content. The LoL MMORPG will most likely focus on group content.

There will also be PvP in the LoL MMO. However, we don’t know exactly how that will work yet.

A release before 2024 is unlikely

When will the LoL MMORPG be released? Ghostcrawler only revealed at the beginning of the year that the game was still in an early stage of development. There are also no videos or screenshots of the gameplay yet. Neither was an alpha announced.

Since there hasn’t even been an exact overview of the features yet, a release before 2024 is considered very unlikely. We at MeinMMO continue to observe the development of the MMORPG and will keep you up to date when there is news.
