In recent updates, the meta in League of Legends has been shaken up a bit. The focus was mainly on damage, healing and defense, which were either strengthened or weakened. Master Yi, a champion hated by many, suffered from the changes. But it is exactly this champion that is supposed to be significantly strengthened with the upcoming patch 12.13.
What is the situation of Master Yi?
- In almost every poll, Master Yi is among the top 10 most hated champions in LoL. This is because a good Yi can deal a lot of damage and, most importantly, evade many enemy attacks. Moreover, with the healing from his “W”, team fights under the enemy tower become much easier.
- However, the latest updates did not mean well for him. Enemies have gotten more defensive, while healing has generally been weakened. This hits Master Yi especially hard. With patch 12.11, his base stats have also been weakened and the True Damage from the “E” has been reduced.
- You can even see the crash clearly in the victory rate. While Master Yi won 51.01% of his matches in Ranked from Iron upwards in Patch 12.9, the rate has dropped to 49.49% in Patch 12.12 (via MetaScr).
But with the upcoming Patch 12.13, Master Yi might become a real monster again. Because Riot Games is planning buffs for the champion.
Greater attack range and more frequent healing
What changes? With the upcoming update, Master Yi’s attack range will be significantly increased. While he was previously able to hit enemies at a range of 125, this will be 175 in the future.
The biggest change, however, concerns his Meditate (W) ability:
- The cost is changed. Instead of 50 mana, you will now pay 40 mana + 6% of the maximum mana per second (maximum 4 seconds).
- In exchange, the recharge time is reduced from 28 to 9 seconds.
- The ability also grants 60% Tenacity (immunity to CC) for the first 0.5 seconds.
When will the changes appear? Patch 12.13 is expected to be released on July 13. However, adjustments can still be made before the update is released.
Fans fear strong yi of low elo
How are the changes received? Mixed. Many agree that Master Yi needs a buff, since his winrate in Platinum or higher is down to below 47%. So in high Elo he is almost useless.
But the changes to the “W” worry some. The champion could use it to dominate inexperienced and weak players in the low Elo, as the new champion Bel’Veth is currently doing. Tower dives in particular should become more and more possible this way.
What else does the update bring? Patch 12.13 is expected to bring the new champion Nilah. This AD Carry relies on a whip, Dashes, and extra experience points for a Last Hit. This makes Nilah extremely dangerous.
