KIT SC White wins eSports championship

Over 45,000 online viewers

With 3:2 from Karlsruhe has won against the “Bremer Brüder” in the final of the eSport University Championship. A total of 18 teams took part in the competition.

KIT SC White from Karlsruhe is once again the German eSport university champion of the Uniliga. As the press team of the announced, the record champion from Karlsruhe won last Saturday with 3:2 against the “Bremer Brüder”. It is already the sixth title win for the eSports club from Karlsruhe University.

The team of KIT SC White consisted of Luka and Filip Prentovic, Robert Stolpmann and Noah Seim. Bremen is the runner-up of the university championship for the eighth time in a row.

Previously, the two clubs had qualified from 18 teams across Germany for the grand final in Cologne. At the Xperion, an eSports arena owned by electronics retailer Saturn, the two teams dueled in the game .

In addition to the spectators on site, more than 45,000 eSports fans followed the final live on the Internet from home.

KIT SC White fights back after losing two games

In the first round of games, things looked good for Bremen at first, before KIT SC White managed to turn the game around after all. In the second game, Bremen was better, safely gained a lead and won the round clearly in the end, according to the league. The third round also went to the team from the Weser.

However, with a more aggressive style of play, the Karlsruhe team came back and decided the fourth match in their favor. Thus, the final was decided in the fifth and last round, where the Bremen brothers suffered another defeat and KIT SC White prevailed.

Especially Robert Stolpmann got everything out of the last fight and finally gave the Karlsruhe team the victory, according to the Uniliga.

Uniliga involves over 600 teams from 200 locations

“The final at the Xperion on Hansaring with the two League of Legends teams was an absolute highlight in the history of the Uniliga,” explained Fabian Fromm, Product Manager of the League. “Full stands, emotional game scenes and frenetic fans made the final an unforgettable eSports moment.”

According to its own information, the Uniliga is the largest eSports league for universities in Germany and a project of the start-up company UNI eSports GmbH. Originally, the project was founded by students. Currently, more than 4,000 active players are involved in over 600 teams and 200 different locations.

Uniliga hosts competitions and championships, offers livestreams, and advises students on setting up eSports networks and tournaments. Games played by Uniliga include League of Legends, the first-person shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and the autoball game Rocket League.
