Kiriko, one of the new heroes for Overwatch 2, fulfills the support role in the game and is the first hero available in the Battle Pass to the game. This decision has already been criticized by many players, which is why Blizzard tried to explain in an interview with PCGamer why the whole thing shouldn’t actually be so bad.
New support hero from Overwatch 2 introduced
In the same interview, we finally got some information about the hero that players will unlock at level 55 of the Battle Pass. According to Associate Narrative Designer Kyungseo Min, Kiriko draws a lot of inspiration from Genji. While she’s not designed to deal a lot of damage, the support hero has quite a bit of mobility and even throws a kunai with one ability, which was originally meant for Genji.
“Genji brought a lot of inspiration. In fact, one of the starting points of this character was ‘How can you create a support hero that DPS players who like Genji would like to play?’ “
It is not uncommon for developers to want to create a support hero that DPS players would enjoy playing. For example, Pyke was designed for League of Legends with this premise.
With Healing ofuda, Kiriko fires up to ten paper notes that automatically fly towards allies and heal them. Furthermore, she can fire a kunai that deals a little damage to her opponents. With Swift Step, Kiriko teleports long distances to an ally and can even move through walls. Protection Suzu, on the other hand, protects nearby allies from damage and harmful effects.
Just like Genji and Hanzo, with whom Kiriko grew up, the new Support Hero can also climb walls, and with her ultimate ability Kitsune Rush, she sends a fox spirit forward. Players who follow this receive increased movement speed, attack speed, reload speed, and reduced cooldowns on their abilities.

Kiriko will be released together with Overwatch 2 on October 4 this year. However, free-to-play players will have to reach level 55 in Battle Pass first, or purchase the premium version. Users who own the original Overwatch or have purchased the Watchpoint pack and log into the game during the first two – Season s will receive the premium Battle Pass without any additional costs.
