With the hero shooter “Valorant” (2020), the “LoL” developer Riot Games has taken on quite a bit. After all, the center of tactical shooter games has so far been “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” (2012), with which Valve has dominated the genre for eight years now. But the community is open to the new rooster in the stable. With the upcoming “Valorant” update you can also look forward to a new agent: Killjoy.
Killjoy: “Valorant” update presents guardian N°3
The agent system provides more variety with each major “Valorant” update. The different abilities not only allow for targeted tactical team play, but also give each hero a kind of personality of their own. Sage, for example, takes on a protective role, can heal her comrades and slow down enemies, while Raze, for example, takes on the more brute role of blaster.
Killjoy comes from Germany and is the third Guardian agent of the tactical shooter, after Sage and Cypher. Sentinels are those characters who gather information about the enemies or prevent their actions. How exactly the new agent fits into this pattern is revealed by her abilities.
This is what Killjoy has up her sleeve
Like the other agents, Killjoy has three abilities and an Ult(imate). The latter provides a rather negative effect on enemies, called a debuff. “It’s by far the most punishing debuff in the whole game,” the developer reveals to Gamestar. “But we believe that players are rarely hit by the debuff once they get used to it.” Here’s what Killjoy’s abilities can do in detail:
- Alert Bot: Similar to Raze’s Boombot, you can also drop the Alarmbot at will. However, it does not blast away your opponent. Instead, it is used for reconnaissance and to debuff your target so that you can take them out more easily.
- Turret: You can also drop the auto-turret quite easily. After 0.75 seconds, the gun will start firing in three bursts at any enemy that comes into view. Each bullet does a good eight points of damage, but this decreases depending on the distance of the target.
- Nanoswarm: The Nanoswarm is a remotely detonated mine that becomes invisible to enemies once you place it.
- Lockdown: Once Lockdown is activated, all enemies within a certain radius receive a massive debuff. Meanwhile, they are unable to use their weapons or abilities.
“After Lockdown is deployed, it takes 13 seconds to detonate and release the debuff, giving players the opportunity to get out of the area of effect,” Riot Games explains. So once the new “Valorant” update is here, you can get on some enemies’ nerves mightily. Soon, even PS4 and Xbox players might get the chance to play the hero shooter.
By the way: With the right settings, you can get an unfair advantage in “Valorant” even without Killjoy.
