Supermarket chain Kaufland has set up its own Esports team for League of Legends. The team “Kaufland Hangry Knights” will compete in the 4th German league, but should play first league in the future. There is a lot of support for the players for this.
What kind of team is this?
- In November 2021, Kaufland was looking for LoL players to compete for their Esports team.
- From over 500 applicants, they have now picked out five players who will compete for Kaufland Hangry Knights in the future.
- The game will be played in the Prime League Division 4, something like the fourth German-speaking league.
- In the long run, however, the team should play in the first league. There they would meet Eintracht Spandau, the new team of HandOfBlood. For this to succeed, there is a lot of support for the players.
Own gaming house and scholarship for the players
How does Kaufland support the team? The new Esports team is to move into its own team house in Berlin in the coming weeks. From there, the players will participate in tournaments, leagues and livestreams.
Accommodation in the house is free for the players. The players will also receive a fixed monthly salary through the “e-sports scholarship,” Kaufland announced in a press release.
Who will compete for the team in the future? The players of Kaufland Hangry Knights are:
- Benjamin “Crowno” Micic – Toplane
- Jan “Sevenarmy” Fragstein – Jungler
- Paul “Paul227” Gurisch – Midlane
- Yannick “Missclick” Hiller – Botlane
- Simon “Flay” Menne – Support
Four of them have already played in the second division of the Prime League and thus have the potential to compete in the first division in the future. After all, that is the goal of Kaufland Hangry Knights. According to our information, Paul227 has only played in the third division so far. However, all players are experienced in tournaments.
Kaufland is far from being the first big brand in LoL Esports
Who else is in esports? Kaufland may have made an interesting offer to gamers with its gaming house and scholarship, but it is far from being the only major brand in the various German leagues in LoL:
- In the first league is the team E WIE EINFACH E-SPORTS, which is supported by the electricity provider
- In the second league there is Cowana, an event agency, as team sponsor
- In both leagues there are soccer teams like Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt or Hertha BSC, which also didn’t start out classically as Esports organizations
One of the most famous German supermarkets has also become the new sponsor for a German team from the LEC in 2021:
