Blizzard developers continue to discuss with the community how to make WotLK Classic’s Tier 8 raid content around Ulduar more attractive. After the item level squeeze for Tier 9 and Tier 10, a second option has now been presented by the designers, which has met with much approval.
At the end of August, members of the Community Council and Blizzard developers discussed a Item level squeeze for the Tier 9 and Tier 10 raid area of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic.. The goal of the change: With the implementation of the Crusader’s Test, Ulduar should not become completely irrelevant – as it was the case back then. However, such a fundamental item level adjustment could bring new problems, for example that the hard content blockers of the later raid instances would then be much too hard for average guilds. If you are interested, you can find the partly quite extensive assessments of the council members in the official forum.
Alternative to the squeeze
Based on feedback from the council, Blizzard has now come up with an alternative solution to the problem. Game Producer Aggrend explained:
- Instead of “nerfing” the Tier 9 and Tier 10 area, it would also be an option to improve the loot levels of Ulduar (by 6 item levels for Normal and by 12 item levels for Hardmode loot).
- This would give Ulduar normal loot from the 25s 6 itemlevels more (232 vs 226) compared to the tier 7 final bosses Kel’thuzad, Sartharion, and Malygos. The hardmode gear would be at an item level of 251. For comparison, the loot from Trial of the Crusader (Normal, 25s) is at item level 245.
- Ulduar has been noticeably weakened over time. In order for raids to have to earn the improved loot, the Blizzard developers want to make the pre-nerf version of the raid instance live first – unlike what was planned. Some bosses and hard modes of this version are supposed to be significantly harder as a result.
- With all this in mind, keep in mind that most Ulduar bosses would only provide one additional loot item per kill due to the mastered hardmode. So the impact on the average item level of the entire raid is comparatively small.
- If the item level adjustments go live like this, Blizzard will have to reevaluate – Season 6 PvP gear. In no way should PvP players feel like they have to contest Ulduar hard modes to keep up in the arena.
