In the fall, the annual remake of the FIFA soccer series will be back on the pitch. According to the rumor mill, the game could feature cross-play for the first time.
It is already official that at the end of 2022 the license agreement between FIFA and EA will expire. It doesn’t look like EA is eager to extend the contract, which was signed in May 2013. Last year, it was revealed that the publisher had secured the EA Sports FC designation. Recently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson had followed up and explained what meaning the name FIFA has for the video game series in his opinion. Presumably, a last EA soccer game with the name FIFA will be released in the fall. Allegedly, the successor to FIFA 22 will offer cross-play, according to leaker Tom Henderson.
Will there be a women’s and men’s World Cup in the successor to FIFA 22?
Until now, FIFA has only ever allowed Playstation vs. Playstation players, PC vs. PC players, and Xbox vs. Xbox kickers to compete. With cross-play, it would be possible for the first time in the history of the game series that virtual kickers from different platforms can play against each other online. Whether FIFA 23 really has cross-play is still unclear. It is possible that the upcoming soccer game will feature a men’s and women’s World Cup for the first time in the series.
