Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will most likely be unveiled earlier than we were used to in recent years. In this news we collect all insider information about the revelation of CoD MW2 in 2022.
Schedule for the MW2 Reveal
Several concurring sources such as. Tom Henderson, the Leaker TheGhostOfHope and Ralph have put together a relatively concrete picture of when and how the new Modern Warfare 2 will be revealed.
All three are considered extremely reliable insiders, but we can’t confirm the details from an independent source. Here is the current schedule (not official):
- June 2, 2022: A final teaser is supposed to prepare the reveal of MW2. What exactly there is to see is unclear. But it should be a short clip from the Reveal trailer.
- June 8, 2022: Modern Warfare 2’s reveal trailer makes its debut. It is said to feature in-game scenes, first info on the new engine version as well as multiplayer and DMZ mode.
- June 9, 2022: As part of the Reveal show at Summer Game Fest, there will be several minutes of gameplay from MW2 and in-depth info. The scenes are from the solo campaign.
- August 2022: The alpha of MW2 starts, for the first time the title is playable for the public. The Gunfight mode from MW2019 returns and offers 2vs2 battles in small arenas.
A date for the beta has not been given yet, but there will be another such test event.
A Modern Warfare 2 reveal so early in the year would be a stark break from previous years, as both Vanguard and Black Ops: Cold War weren’t officially unveiled until August. It was a different story with Modern Warfare, whose first trailer was released in May 2019.
With CoD 2022 becoming a direct sequel, and of course following on from the groundbreaking success of MW2019, Activision could be repeating the timing and marketing strategy of that time. In that respect, Ralph’s predictions sound quite realistic.
The official info from the developer
On April 28, Call of Duty’s official Twitter account posted a short teaser with the hashtag Modern Warfare 2. We first hear strange sounds, probably meant to remind us of radio traffic, and see arrangements of lines that could represent a topographical map. At the end, the Modern Warfare 2 logo forms:

Two secret clues are hidden in the first teaser
Already a few days earlier, the developer Infinity Ward teased the game:
- Infinity Ward itself fires up speculation: On April 22, Infinity Ward released the banner and profile picture of the in-house Twitter- and Instagram accounts blacked out without warning. Under normal circumstances, virtually nothing can be made out in either image, but when brightened up, one of the most prominent characters in the Modern Warfare series can be made out: Ghost!
- Who is Ghost? The soldier with the skull mask is an icon of the MW series and part of Captain Price’s Task Force 141. In the original MW2 from 2009, Ghost (his real name is Simon Riley) was betrayed and murdered by General Shepherd.
- What does this mean? This fuels the speculation and rumors of a Modern Warfare 2 reveal soon from the developer himself. Also circulating Rumors about a playtest, where first players could try out MW2 and give feedback as early as April 25.

MW2 marks a big change
After all, a lot depends on the title: In 2023, for the first time in almost two decades, no new CoD part is to come. Instead, they want to continue to supply Modern Warfare 2 with content and extend its life cycle. Of course, this also increases the pressure on the new CoD to succeed.
Not only the new DMZ mode, which borrows a lot from Escape from Tarkov or Hunt Showdown, but also a reboot of the Battle Royale should contribute to a long life cycle:
Battle Royale
CoD Warzone 2 will be a whole new game
By the way, in my column I explain in a bit more detail why and how the departure from the 12-month cycle under the Microsoft flag could lead the CoD brand to a golden future
One thing is certain, anyway: Infinity Ward has two enormous tasks on its shoulders. To repeat the financial record of Modern Warfare and to transform CoD into a longer-term service game.
