“If I wasn’t a pro, I wouldn’t play SoloQ anymore”. – eSportsNews eSports LoL

In , South Korean Lee “#Faker” Sang-hyeok has been one of the most famous and best players for 9 years. But currently, the three-time world champion is dissatisfied with the state of the #, especially fed up with the solo queue in 2022. It’s a pure game of chance at the moment.

Who is Faker?

  • Faker is the “Lionel Messi” of LoL, something like a global superstar of the game. He collected titles in LoL early on, becoming world champion in 2013, 2015 and 2016. In South Korea, he is seen as an “ambassador of the country.” One politician even demanded special treatment for him, saying that he should not be allowed to do his military service until after his career.
  • Faker is a midlaner in LoL, playing Wizard and Assassin, known for his exceptionally deep champion pool, spectacular plays, and nerves of steel.
  • Right now, Faker is back in brilliant form after a few weaker years: He has broken the all-time record for a “good start to a – Season ” in the LCK with his team T1, when T1 won 17 games in a row.

Even the best player has too little influence on the outcome of a LoL match

That’s what bothers Faker right now:

In a Twitch stream on March 16, Faker said, according to a translation:

“If I wasn’t a pro, I wouldn’t play solo cue anymore because it’s not fun. […] “Nine out of 10 games are like slot machines. If it’s like it is now, I don’t see the point in playing anymore.”

Faker

What exactly does he mean?

Faker haggles with his teammates in the solo cue. The midlaner apparently thinks that he himself, as an individual, has too little influence on the outcome of his match. Everything depends on the other players who are assigned to him during matchmaking.

If he gets to teammates who only “troll”, don’t take the game seriously or erase and give up, even such superstar as Faker can’t have a decisive influence on the game.

From Faker’s point of view, it depends purely on luck in 90% of the cases whether he wins or loses. Just like in a slot machine, it is not the skill of the player but the luck of getting good teammates that decides whether you win or lose.

This is also related to the fact that Faker plays in the Korean solo queue and there are problems with “foreign players” here. They can play there with all the luxuries through special accounts, but they often don’t take SoloQ as seriously as pros would like.

Game is okay – players annoying and “worse than ever”.

So this is discussed: On reddit the statement of the legendary faker is discussed:

  • Basically, they think the current meta in LoL is actually fine – but the players are “worse than ever”
  • One player says he’s been playing since 2017 – never had so little fun in LoL. Every game is like flipping a coin to see who gets the worse teammates.
  • One now hopes that having the “greatest player of all time” say something like “your game is not fun” will worry . On reddit, one hopes for significant change.

What could be a solution?

One suggestion says needs to change how players are rated:

  • Now the team success alone counts
  • But one would like to see a system where individual performance is factored into the evaluation, such as the KDA

Even though some players are currently happy with the meta, Riot Games is tweaking some formulas in the background.
