There are games where doubts arise even before the release that they will be a success. One of them is “Hyper Scape”, published by Ubisoft. After it became quite quiet around the title in the past months, the publisher announced today that support will be discontinued.

Support end in April

However, you still have a little time to plunge into the game world of “Hyper Scape”. The plug won’t be pulled until April 28, 2022. The knowledge gained with the game is to be incorporated into upcoming productions.

“We have made the difficult decision to end the development of Hyper Scape and discontinue the game on April 28,” said Ubisoft in the announcement. “We set out to create a vertical, fast-paced shooter experience. And we are very grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will incorporate the key learnings from this game into future products.”

Ubisoft thanks the “Hyper Scape” community for their passion and dedication – both inside and outside the game. “Your dedication to the game we created will always be cherished,” the creators continue.

Did not last two years

The service game “Hyper Scape” was released on August 11, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, after an open beta phase on PC began a month earlier. The surge in the general player base caused by the COVID-19 pandemic was apparently not helpful in building a portable community.

The recently released “Rainbow Six Extraction” also got off to a slow start. According to official figures, the shooter reached three million players in its first week. While three million players would have been a success in times when games were sold exclusively, it must be noted with the new shooter that “Rainbow Six: Extraction” was already offered via subscription services like Ubisoft+ or the Xbox Game Pass at release.

Due to the oversupply, it cannot necessarily be assumed that the players who were able to get a taste of the title at virtually no additional cost will stay in the game world for the long term.
