The Classic version of WoW’s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is scheduled for release later this year. That WotLK Classic Many people already knew that the success of Classic and TBC Classic would be followed by a nobrainer. As is well known, after WotLK began the first big descent of World of Warcraft.

The subsequent expansion Cataclysm could not really convince players, to put it mildly. So does it make sense for Blizzard to continue the Classic series with Cataclysm when hardly anyone is likely to play it? This question was posed by WoW’s (buy now ) Game Director Ion Hazzikostas interviewed by Twitch streamer Asmongold.

The question is what the community wants

Asmongold asked the question this way: “What do you think is going to happen now that Wrath of the Lich King Classic is coming out? Obviously Wrath of the Lich King will run its course… then what?“

Ion Hazzikostas: “At this point we’d like to hear from you, from the community as a whole, what you’d like to see next. We have a player base that has really made Classic their home, a lot of people have taken their characters from Classic into Burning Crusade and probably into Wrath. When that comes to an end, when you defeat the Lich King – excuse me, when you defeat Halion, the ultimate final boss of Wrath of the Lich King, you can’t forget the Ruby Sanctum – do you want to start over? Do you want to try a different version of it? Do you want to take that character on a new adventure?

I know Cataclysm is the beginning of the end for a lot of people, I’m out.” But I would ask an interesting question: What is it about Cataclysm that you didn’t like? Was it the heroic dungeons? Was firelands a bad raid? Was shadow highlands a bad zone? Were LFR and Dungeon Finder from the beginning? The compression of the talent trees? What would it look like if we had Cata content with “some changes”?“
