Vancouver, Canada – This is the first major feature of EA’s latest FIFA installment they will ever release. For years, crossplay has been an established way in the gaming industry to bring the community of different platforms together. Now crossplay has found a place in FIFA 23 as well. PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Google Stadia are officially allowed to compete against each other.

Crossplay in FIFA 23: For a long time FIFA fans have wished for it and now it will actually become reality. Crossplay will be a new feature in FIFA 23. Players of PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Google Stadia will be able to compete against each other on the virtual turf.

Last Gen players also have a reason to rejoice. Thus, crossplay in FIFA 23 will also be possible for the PS4 and Xbox One platforms. EA is known for putting a lot of emphasis on players of the older console generation. Players will be able to use the crossplay function of FIFA 23 in all one-on-one modes.

Crossplay for Current Gen: The crossplay feature was successfully tested by EA in the predecessor. Now EA is rolling out the multiplatform feature on all Current Gen devices. Crossplay in FIFA 23 is playable in almost every mode. We have listed all official crossplay modes in FIFA 23.

EA Social in FIFA 23The platforms on which FIFA 23 will be playable all have their own friend lists and communities. To make it easy for them to find each other in FIFA 23, EA has conjured another new feature out of the hat. EA Social lets you find your friends via EA account ID and challenge them to a FIFA 23 match.

In EA Social you get an exact overview of which friends are currently online on which console. In addition, you can see whether the friend is compatible with crossplay or not eligible to play due to a different platform. The EA Social Hub can be found in the lower right corner of the FIFA 23 main menu.

FIFA 23: Crossplay for Last Gen – How to play on PS4 and Xbox One

Crossplay for PS4 and Xbox One: Players of the Last Gen consoles can breathe a sigh of relief, because for them the exact same steps to play crossplay apply as for the Current Gen consoles. However, it should be said that FIFA 23 doesn’t allow any crossplay between the console genres. FIFA 23 players of the PS4 therefore can’t challenge PS5 players.

FIFA 23: Crossplay has influence on the transfer market – What happens with FUT?

FUT Transfer Market: The Crossplay feature will have an enormous impact on the Ultimate Team transfer market of FIFA 23. The reason for this is that EA will throw the transfer markets of most platforms together. In FIFA 23, the following platforms share a transfer market: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Google Stadia. This will result in significantly more players on the transfer market. However, we can only speculate about the exact effects for FUT.

FIFA 23’s PC and Nintendo Switch player base will not be affected by the merging of the Ultimate Team transfer markets. These platforms will continue to have their own transfer market in Ultimate Team. While this makes sense for the Nintendo Switch due to slimmed down version without for example FUT Champions, the question remains why the PC community of FIFA 23 was not also considered.

FIFA 23: No crossplay function for Pro Clubs mode and Nintendo Switch

Pro Clubs without crossplay: As mentioned before, the crossplay feature will only be playable for one vs. one modes. This means that the Pro Clubs mode will not be able to take advantage of the new crossplay implemented by EA. However, there will be a World Cup mode in FIFA 23. Nintendo Switch players will also be left out in the cold. The lack of crossplay is quite understandable due to the completely different engine and game modes.
