How Fortnite destroyed its most popular mode

Many modes exist in , but one was particularly popular – Group Wedges. This chaotic yet fun mode charmed many players for a long time, but for some inexplicable reason it was adjusted and put in a worse light. We’ll show you how Epic Games destroyed the mode.

How does group wedge work?

Group Wedges is a separate mode just like the well-known Solo, Duo, Trio and Team modes. It accommodates two teams of 16 players each. The goal is to be the team on the now new map to reach 125 points. Depending on the number of players, the necessary points vary, so as not to drag out the match unnecessarily. Many players loved this mode because you could not die permanently. After your death, you are spawned again and can attack your opponents again. Completing tasks and quests was also easy in Group Wedges, but Epic made many changes that made Group Wedges mode increasingly unpopular.

No changes were necessary

What changes were made?

When this mode was introduced in Chapter 1, many changes have spread to Chapter 3.

Although many players used group wedges to complete their quests, this was changed in Chapter 2. When you started a round, you would get separate tasks that were tailored to chaotic mode and offered you very little XP for the Battle Pass. Players couldn’t even complete their – Season al quests and had to switch to the familiar solo, duo, trio, and team modes to do so. This hit a sore spot with many. But not only that.

Where once huge buildings rose out of the sky through construction battles, this is no longer possible. When you start a round, you now not only have less time to loot various POIs, but you also have to immediately keep an eye out for where the storm eye is. When you reach the storm eye, it doesn’t stay on its spot, but moves across the map. So you have to be more mobile and agile. Crazy building in group wedges is no longer possible. The storm forces you to engage in ranged battles in open areas rather than having wild gunfights in constructs with the pump. In the Fortnite community, the group wedge mode has been a constant topic of discussion. Adjustments were made where none would have been necessary. Many players have complained about the changes, and yet Epic Games continues to change the mode.

Is group wedges still playable now?

Things have changed, but the original wild character of the mode has disappeared. Many players have turned away from the mode since the extreme gameplay changes. In the meantime, however, you will be thrown into a round with weapons. Additionally, quests and tasks can be completed this time around. Even bounties can be accepted and completed in group wedges.

You can see how Epic Games wants to row back and restore the mode to its former glory, but whether the efforts will be worth it remains to be seen. What do you think of Group Wedges? Do you like the mode, with its new changes, or do you dislike it and stay away from it? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
