Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
Wraith King: “Comes now the King of Wraiths!”
Ostarion, the Wraith King, is a strength hero from DotA and Dota 2. The Wraith King is a melee unit of the Dire. In the game, he can take on the role of a Durabler, Carry, and Disabler. Three of his four abilities, including his Ultimate, are passive. The Wraith King can provide healing to allies and himself through dealt damage with Vampiric Aura. Wraithfire Blast allows him to stun enemy units, deal damage over time, and temporarily slow them, while Mortal Strike gives him a chance at high bonus damage based on his base damage and strength. His Ultimate ability Reincarnation allows him to reincarnate, which effectively gives him two lives, greatly slowing down surrounding enemies during this one and making him difficult to kill for good. However, since Reincarnation consumes mana, he is vulnerable without mana and can be killed. Aghanim’s Scepter does not directly improve the Ultimate, however, but turns all allied Heroes, as well as Wraith King himself, into a Wrath Spirit when they are about to die. This gives them a few seconds longer life.
Wraith King- Hype
Striding fearlessly toward his enemies, Wraith King stuns his foes and slashes them into submission. Should his enemies gain the upper hand, his self-resurrecting ultimate ensures he’ll have another chance to swing his sword.
Wraith King- Biography
“For countless years, King Ostarion built an empire from the remains of his enemies. It was the task of a man possessed, performed to spend the long eternities of a seemingly endless monarchy. He believed that he could not die as long as he continued to build the towers of his palace. But one day he learned that he had been deceived… that even bones can pass away. With a deep distrust of flesh, he sought a more permanent way to prolong his reign, and finally found it in spirit energy, a form of pure spirit given off by certain dark souls at death. Should he allow himself to be infused with spirit essence, he believed, he could create a body as brilliant and eternal as his ego. On the millennial solstice known as Wraith Night, he had a transformation ritual performed on him and ordered his subjects to gather enough souls to fulfill his wish for immortality. No one knows how many of his heroes perished, but the only significant survivor was the Wraith King, who rose the following morning along with the sun. Now he hardly spends a moment on his shining throne, but strides about with sword drawn, in demand of a following far beyond death.”
Skeleton King
“A victim of a longevity spell that backfired, the Skeleton King Ostarion has built an empire from the bones of his enemies. He lives only to steadily expand his empire, since he cannot die during it. The walls of his palace are made of baked bones; the streets are paved with bones of every kind of creature and opponent; and even the forest and other natural formations of his land have been torn away and replaced with replicas made of bones. From the Ivory Forest to Ostarion’s towering Bone Throne, nothing happens in the Realm of Bone without the full knowledge of the Skeleton King.”
