Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
Tidehunter: “We enter uncharted waters.”
Leviathan, the Tidehunter, is a strength hero from DotA and Dota 2. He is a melee unit of the Dire. In the game he can take on the role of an Initiator, Durabler, Disabler and Support. With his abilities, the Tidehunter can protect himself as well as damage, stun, weaken their attack or armor, and slow down enemy units. Gush is useful for specifically slowing down an enemy hero, damaging them, and lowering their armor. With Aghanim’s Scepter, Gush can be improved and becomes an ability with a much longer range and lower cooldown. Kraken Shell passively reduces the damage Tidehunter takes once it reaches a certain limit. Through Anchor Smash, Tidehunter damages nearby enemies and reduces their attack speed. His ultimate ability Ravage is even suitable for stunning entire groups of enemies, since it affects a large circle around Tidehunter. Moreover, he appears in the Dota 2 tutorial as the Sniper’s opponent and is thus introduced to every new player early on.
Tidehunter- Hype
Stalking ahead of his team, Tidehunter is always on the lookout for the right time to strike. When the moment comes, he unleashes his massive and devastating ultimate, paving the way for his allies to slay their stunned enemies.
Tidehunter- Biography
“The Tidehunter known as Leviathan was once the Master of the Sunken Isles, but his motives are as unknown as those of his people. We all know about the importance of Drylander’s shipping lanes, how empires rise and fall depending on who controls the open waters. Far less is known about the underwater routes and how the warring tribes of the Meranthic Diaspora carved out space for habitats in countless underwater disputes. In the fragile agreements between Mer and Men, we can catch glimpses of the expanses of the fallen empire, but their politics seem complex and opaque. One might think that Leviathan would have had enough of such petty squabbles and gone off on his own, loyal to his own abysmal god, Maelrawn the Tentacular. Now he scours the shallows for Men or Meranthen who cross his path and harbor a particular loathing for Admiral Kunkka, who for a long time, for reasons lost in the deepest parts of the sea, has been their nemesis.”
