Heroes (Dota 2)

The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.

Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.

Spirit Breaker: “I’ll break their spirits and their backs.”

Barathrum, the Spirit Breaker, is a strength hero from DotA and Dota 2. Spirit Breaker is a melee Dire hero who can perform powerful rush attacks. In the game, he can take on the role of a Durabler, Carry, Initiator, and Disabler. Charge of Darkness lets Spirit Breaker charge at an enemy visible to his team and stun him on impact unless he is stopped. In doing so, he can cross the entire map at an increased speed, stunning enemy and neutral units along the way and crossing obstacles directly, making the ability great for ganking. Spirit Breaker also has two passive abilities. Empowering Haste increases his and nearby allies’ movement speed by a percentage bonus, and Greater Bash grants him a chance to stun enemy units on hit, knocking them back while giving him a temporary bonus to his movement speed. In doing so, he deals bonus damage that is proportional to his movement speed. Spirit Breaker’s Ultimate Nether Strike grants him a Greater Bash of additional damage when used. Aghanim’s Scepter reduces Nether Strike’s cooldown, increases range, and causes an area radius.

Highly mobile and always aggressive, Spirit Breaker charges across the map to bring the fight to his enemies. With each bash of his heavy lantern, he knocks his foes senseless. His enemies may run, but with the help a few wards, they cannot hide.
