Heroes (Dota 2)
The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.
Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
Slark: “If I’d known I’d end up here, I’d have stayed in Dark Reef Prison.”
Slark, the Nightcrawler, is an agility hero from DotA and Dota 2. Slark is a fast melee Dire unit that can both save himself from dicey situations and put enemy heroes in them. In the game, he can take on the role of an escaper. However, Slark’s gank potential also makes him a good semi-carry. Dark Pact allows Slark to remove most debuffs and deal damage to nearby enemies. Pounce makes Slark jump in his current line of sight, damaging and tethering enemy heroes he collides with while jumping. While Pounce is active, the bound enemy has limited movement and cannot move away from Slark. Slark’s passive ability Essence Shift steals enemy heroes’ primary attribute when attacked and converts it into temporary bonus agility for Slark. With his Ultimate Shadow Dance, he can hide behind a cloud of shadow when activated, preventing enemies from attacking him directly. As a passive bonus, his Ultimate grants him huge percentage bonuses to his Health regeneration and movement speed while he is not visible to enemies or in combat. However, Shadow Dance cannot be improved with Aghanim’s Scepter.
Slark- Hype
Pouncing into danger then slipping back out is what Slark does best. He rushes at the chance to pin or corner a lone foe, steals their essence with each cut from his dagger, and is always ready to vanish should the tables turn.
Slark- Biography
“Little is known to the inhabitants of the dry world about the Dark Reef, a sunken prison where the vilest spawn of the sea are banished for crimes against their kind. It is a spiky maze filled with murderous Slithereen, insidious Deep Ones, and sociopathic Meranths. In this murky maze, patrolled by eels and monitored by giant anemones, only the most vicious inmates survive. Slark was also thrown into the Dark Reef – for crimes long forgotten. He spent half a lifetime without his peers or the pleasure of kindness. He learned to trust no one, to survive by stealth and ruthlessness, and to keep his thoughts and plans to himself. When the filthy Dark Reef Dozen planned their ill-fated escape, they ensured the perfect secrecy of their plan by killing anyone who could have comprehended it. Nevertheless, Slark learned of their plan by unknown means and found a loophole for himself in it. Ten of the dozen died already during the escape attempt, and the remaining two were captured and thrown back into the Dark Reef, where they were eventually executed for the entertainment of their fellow inmates. Only Slark, the unknown thirteenth, used the confusion as a diversion and escaped without ever being recaptured. He is now a lurking resident of the carnivorous creeping mangrove that occupies the southern edge of Shadeshore. Slark remains as the only successful escapee from the Dark Reef.”
