Heroes (Dota 2)

The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.

Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.

Sand King: “I shift like the sands.”

Crixalis, the Sand King Sand King Icon.png (Sand King), is a melee strength hero from DotA and Dota 2. The Sand King can deal damage over large areas and make areas difficult to pass. In the game, he can take on the role of an Initiator, Disabler, and Nuker. Crixalis’ abilities are great for casting in succession. Burrowstrike allows Crixalis to move quickly, stunning enemy units between himself and his target. With the channeling ability Sand Storm, he cloaks himself in a sandstorm and becomes invisible, damaging enemy units in the storm. The passive ability Caustic Finale poisons enemy Creeps, Heroines, and Heroes, making them deal area damage as long as they die during the course of the poison’s effect. Epicenter makes the entire battlefield shake and damages all surrounding enemies with a heavy earthquake, but requires a short channeling to be usable. If Sand King possesses Aghanim’s Scepter, the range of Burrowstrike is doubled and hit enemies suffer the poison from Caustic Finale.

Not many can survive an ambush from Sand King. Demolishing everything around him with waves of deadly vibration from his ultimate, he evades counterattacks by hiding himself in a scouring gust of sand, and stuns foes by striking them from beneath.

“The sands of the shimmering desert are living, thinking beings – bound together in a collective, they possess a mind whose dimensions are as immeasurable as those of their realm. Only when an emissary is needed in dealing with lower natures does the desert secrete a fragment of its body and stuff it into a magical armor made by the refined Djinn of Qaldin. This being calls itself Crixalis, the ‘Soul of the Sand’, but elsewhere it is known only as the Sand King. Inspired by the many inhabitants of the shimmering desert, Sand King has taken the form of an oversized arachnid, an appearance that describes only too well his fierce nature. Guardian, warrior, messenger – Sand King epitomizes all of these while being inseparable from the endless desert that brought him to life.”
