Crystal Maiden: “When Hell freezes over, I’ll start calling it Heaven.”

Rylai, the Crystal Maiden, is an intelligence heroine from DotA and Dota 2. As a Radiant ranged fighter, she controls the ice and can cast powerful cold spells. In the game, she can take on the role of a support, disabler, nuker and jungler. In particular, with Crystal Nova she slows down and damages entire groups of enemies with area damage, while Frostbite freezes a single unit, causing damage and immobility to it. Arguably her greatest support strength is her high mana regeneration, half of which she automatically transfers to allies through the passive ability Activate Arcane Aura. However, upon Crystal Maiden’s death, this ability suspends. Crystal Maiden’s Ultimate Freezing Field deals a large area of effect damage and slows enemies within that radius. However, the ability has a channeling effect and immobilizes Crystal Maiden, as Freezing Field is immediately cancelled upon movement, allowing it to be interrupted by enemy heroes. Possession of Aghanim’s Scepter increases the damage and slowing of the ultimate.

Because she constantly supplies her team with new mana and can slow down her enemies’ movements, Crystal Maiden is always a good ally. And should the opportunity arise, she can inflict great damage on the enemy team with her powerful ultimate ability.

“Born in a temperate climate and raised alongside her fiery older sister Lina, Rylai the Crystal Maiden quickly realized that her innate elemental affinity for ice was causing trouble for everyone around her. Springs and mountain streams froze over in moments when she stopped for a brief rest nearby; ripening crops bore frost damage and fruit trees turned into mazes of ice, dropping the now-destroyed harvest. When her unnerved parents sent Lina away toward the equator, Rylai was driven to the northern lands around Icewrack, where she was taken in by an ice wizard who had driven a hermitage into the ice at the highest point of the Blueheart Glacier. After a long study, the wizard declared her ready for independent training and left her to take his place as he descended further into the glacier to hibernate there for the next thousand years. Her mastery of the frozen arts has only gotten better since then, and now her skills are unmatched.”

Heroes (Dota 2)

The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.

Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.
