Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Yuri served the Russian Speznas special forces until the 90s. His idealism made the ears of Imran Zakhaev and Vladimir Makarov prick up. Later, Yuri served the ultranationalist faction, where he primarily escorted Makarov. During the sniper attack on Zakhaev in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Makarov and Yuri were in a vehicle near Zakhaev, whose arm was severed in the attempted attack. He was also present when Makarov detonated a nuclear bomb in the Middle East. These events, witnessed by Yuri, made him doubt his decision to support the ultra-nationalists..
Betrayal in Moscow
When Yuri learned about Makarov’s plans to cause a massacre at a Russian airport, he tries to stop him, however, Makarov learns about Yuri’s plan and shoots him in the chest. Yuri still tries to shoot Makarov, but faints from his blood loss and is rescued by emergency doctors shortly after. This event was the trigger for the enormous hatred Yuri has for Makarov.
