Sergeant Roland Roger was an American officer from Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. At the time of World War II, he served in the 1st American Infantry Division, the Big Red One. He was under the command of Glenn Hawkins and Norman Delaney.
Roger’s missions
Operation Torch
He is first seen with the rest of the squad in a halftrack on November 8, 1942. After taking out the machine gunner, Roger took over the machine gun and killed numerous enemy. He and his squad then took some hangars, killed the men manning flak quarters, and with one flak quarter Roger even shot down an enemy plane. In February 1943, he got his first training in tank driving. Because of this, he was able to help repel a tank attack right away and played escort for three mechanics. Soon Roger, Kelly, Vic and some other soldiers had to recapture artillery which was taken by the Germans. As a result, the squad had to fight off a counterattack to protect the medics, who had to get to a field hospital in a town as quickly as possible. Roger was able to save one life himself, Hawk’s, after the medic who was supposed to help him was shot. Last but not least, the squad was pursued by a tank, which Roger was able to destroy with a bazooka.
Operation Husky
In July 1943, Roger and many other soldiers attacked a beach area in Sicily, with many casualties. His squad rescued Colonel Young and two other soldiers who survived a plane crash, only to also repel an enemy attack and even a tank shortly after. By climbing into a half-track vehicle with a high-caliber machine gun and destroying more than a dozen rocket launchers, Roger was able to save a supply depot from destruction. Roger fought through strong Italian resistance and rendezvoused with a squad led by Captain James. For him, Roger took out eight tanks with a bazooka and then tagged more tanks, which were eliminated by the squad. For this act, he was promoted to colonel. He was then stationed at Troina, where Vic Denley was shot several times and died. In revenge, Roger single-handedly destroyed an FlaK88 gun and provided cover for his squad with a light machine gun.
Landing on Omaha
Roger was also part of the invasion at Omaha Beach, but while he was on the lookout for enemies, his landing craft was hit by German artillery. Shortly thereafter, he and his troops were able to get behind enemy lines and destroyed three mortar pits, took over a warehouse, destroyed two FlaK guns but repaired one of them and used it to bomb two bunkers and a fuel depot.
Maubeuge, France
Roger, Brooklyn, Kelly, the new Private Allen, and many other soldiers were to recapture an occupied position held by the Germans in France. However, after several men lost their lives trying to destroy a tank, Roger placed an explosive charge on it and blew it up. After that, the men had to fight off a German attack in a house. Allen was still outside the house and lost his life in the first engagement. Roger was almost seriously wounded by enemy explosives.
Mons, Belgium
In Mons in September 1944, Roger and his squad were on patrol when they were ordered to destroy four FlaK guns that, according to Glenn Hawkins, “rained hell down on their position.” Roger was able to destroy all four himself. During a German attack on a house where the squad was located, Roger was able to destroy two enemy armored vehicles and hold one tank at bay until it was destroyed by a P-51 Mustang. After destroying 2 more MGs and capturing an enemy camp, Roger was promoted.
Crucifix Hill, Eilendorf, Germany
Roger, Kelly and Smith crossed a river and cleaned out a cemetery. They were able to make it far while destroying an anti-aircraft quad, several machine guns, and bunkers along the way. The squad reached the top of the hill and was able to take out three German Nebelwerfer.
Siegfried Line, Germany
