General Heinrich Amsel commanded some troops in the Red Square area of Stalingrad. Looking at his rank and the area in which he led his troops, he was most likely a member of the 79th Infantry Division.
During the occupation of Stalingrad, Amsel gained fame by having many Red Army soldiers and civilians slaughtered. His role in the occupation ensured that Sergeant Reznov pursued him non-stop for many days. On September 17, 1942, after a massacre took place against the soldiers of the 62nd Rifle Division in Russia, Reznov convinced survivor Dimitri Petrenko to pursue Heinrich Amsel and eliminate him once and for all.
At first Amsel spent the day like any other – driving to the places where his people were stationed and thoroughly inspecting each base, but suddenly Red Army soldiers appeared and launched an attack on his headquarters, so Amsel dared to try to escape to another place. Together with his bodyguards, Amsel tried to secretly sneak out of his hiding place and run away, but was murdered by Dimitri Petrenko in the process.
