Helpless Cheaters: New Anti-Cheat Measures

The special anti-cheat software Ricochet of CoD Vanguard and Warzone is extended by a new function. The “Disarm” feature is supposed to get on the cheaters’ nerves even more in the future.

This is how Disarm works: The way Disarm works is as simple as it is funny. When a player is identified by the system as a cheater, the game immediately takes away his weapons. This refers not only to the firearms or melee weapons, but even they fists. This leaves the cheaters completely helpless and an easy prey for the other players. So the function turns the tables.

These features also exist: Disarm easily joins the previous, extremely annoying-sounding features that the Ricochet anti-cheat system has to offer. These include, for example:

  • Damage Shield: When a cheater is identified, honest players in the match receive a shield that drastically reduces the cheater’s damage. It ensures that he wastes his ammo and can be detected by players through hit feedback.
  • Cloaking: the function ensures that the cheater’s shots, make normal players invisible. This also applies to the players’ projectiles and sound, making it impossible to detect them.

Thus, the functions are not only designed to identify and block the cheaters, but above all to rob them of the sense of achievement that cheating gives them. Many of them are also harshly humiliated.

Ricochet works, but…

These results exist: In the blog post with the info on Ricochet, the team also reveals that since the last cheater report on April 26, there have been another 180,000 bans in Warzone and Vanguard. The bans happen both daily and in larger waves. In a graph, the team shows that matches in which Ricochet’s measures were active recorded a lot fewer cheater reports than matches in which these measures were absent. So it shows that the anti-cheat works.

Blue line shows matches with ricochet protection, red shows matches with cheater messages. However, the fight against cheating is never over, as the blog post states. As soon as new cheat software is developed, there is again an increase in cases and reports. However, Ricochet helps developers identify the new waves of cheaters faster and react accordingly.

What do you guys think? In your experience, has the amount of cheaters decreased noticeably or has nothing changed? What do you think of the Ricochet anti-cheat measures? Write us your opinion in the comments.

In the meantime, Acitivision is preparing for the release of CoD Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty 2022 is called Modern Warfare 2: Everything we know so far – release, setting, game modes.
