In Pokémon GO, the Community Day Classic with Hydropi took place yesterday. Now trainers are taking stock on social media and are pretty upset about the Shiny quota. We at MeinMMO show you what happened.
Which event is it about? On April 10, 2022, a so-called Community Day Classic took place in Pokémon GO for the second time. As with the normal C-Day, the focus was on a selected Pokémon, which, however, had already had a Community Day in the past: Hydropi.
The Community Day Classic with Hydropi spanned 3 event hours, which are now over. Many trainers therefore draw a personal conclusion to the event in the social networks and are very angry especially about the Shiny yield.
What happened to the C-Day Classic that made trainers angry?
Even though the actual Community Day in April with Velursi is still to come, some trainers had been looking forward to the Community Day Classic with Hydropi. Sumpex, the evolution of the Water Pokémon, is in fact a popular candidate, especially in the GO Battle League.
Of course, many also wanted to take the chance and finally secure a dazzling Hydropi. For this, a Community Day actually offers the best conditions. But many trainers in the social networks now see it differently.
That’s why trainers are upset: As you can see from the reddit community, some players are grumbling that they used the entire 3 hours of the event and played actively and still barely got any shinys. They are angry about the poor yield and vent their anger (via reddit.com):
- ComprehensiveLine105: “I played the whole three hours. No Shiny”
- Furyadventures: “I haven’t seen a Shiny all day”.
- Articwolfpup: “Played diligently for 3 hours and no Shiny. As a rural player with the nearest PokéStop 10 miles away, the smoke sucks. I’m also sad because Hydropi is my favorite Pokemon and I was really hoping to get a shiny one”
- i-have-soquestions- “I have 4 shinys all 0 stars all low WP”.
- MeanBird88: “I played the whole 3 hours and couldn’t believe how few shinys there were. I managed to get about 7, but still, wtf. The smoke nerf, the community day nerf, and now what? Honestly, it’s so frustrating.”
But why was the Shiny rate so bad?
Why the Shiny rate was so bad is not officially known. Of course, this is why people in the community are making assumptions about the reasons. After all, the Shiny probability is usually increased on Community Days and it is relatively easy to spot one.
Some users are therefore sure that this poor yield is a result of the recent changes to the smoke effectiveness as well as the too short event period, as you can read in the comments (via reddit.com):
- Mrwigglebutt: “With the recent change to smoke and the hour reduction on community day, I changed my shinys from 1-6 to 0. If you guys want people to stop playing, you’re doing a great job.”
- joannaghoulsom: “It doesn’t allow any of us who are adults (most of us) and have to work or go to meetings to participate to the extent that we would like to, which I find very frustrating and alienating.”
- Bo_flex: “Why call it Community DAY if it only lasts a few hours?”
And indeed, that could play a crucial role. Niantic has namely recently “worsened” the smoke effectiveness. So now you get less Pokémon from the smoke at standstill. These spawn only about every 5 minutes. On the other hand, you should benefit from a higher spawn rate from the smoke when moving.
The duration of the Community Day has also been criticized by the community for a few weeks now. While the C-Day Classic lasted only 3 hours the first time, the regular Community Days will be shortened from 6 to 3 hours in the future.
What statement Niantic has given to this change, you can read in our related article:
Pokémon GO talks controversial C-Day decision, trainers say “this will end badly”
Were all players’ Shiny odds that bad?
But not all players can confirm this experience. Some were really lucky and can therefore only slightly understand the frustration of the other coaches. Thus plaguevape writes: “I have about 9 Shinys. I don’t think it’s Niantic’s fault, but rather a user error” (via reddit.com).
Uneven Shiny distribution when playing together with friends: So now it would be an obvious conclusion that the affected trainers were perhaps a bit more inactive than those with a higher yield after all.
However, you can also find reports in the comments where trainers played together and one hardly discovered any shinys and the other in turn had a huge yield. This is also confirmed by Swing_Sense, who writes: “I have 6 and a friend of mine has 23, so… what am I doing wrong?” (via reddit.com).
So why the Shiny quota was so unevenly distributed for the Community Day Classic with Hydropi, and why some trainers even came up empty, is not clear. In general, however, catching Shinys always involves a bit of luck. The community can only hope that the upcoming community events will be a little better.
What did you think of the Community Day Classic with Hydropi? Did you also catch so few Shinys? Or can you not complain about your Shiny yield at all? Feel free to post your opinion here on MyMMO in the comments and share it with other trainers.
In the next few days, Pokémon GO will be running its Spring Event, bringing you a new legendary Pokémon, cute costumes, and cool bonuses. We’ll show you what else you can expect during the event.
