In 2021, hate raids on various streamers caused a huge outcry on Twitch. Although the platform took several measures against it and one user even provided a tool to fight against hate raids, but now the raids are back. This time they pose a real problem, because they come neither from bots nor from Twitch, but from outside. MeinMMO reports.
What are hate raids?
- Hate raids are predominantly bots sent to streamers to insult them. Hate messages are spammed into chats and flood the normal messages of the streamer’s fans. Sometimes, however, real people are prompted by other Twitch streamers to engage in hate raids.
- The well-known streamer Pokimane became a victim of such a hate raid. Twitch streamer JiDion sent his viewers into her chat to spam “L+Ratio.” That means something like booing loudly. He was ultimately permanently banned by Twitch for this.
- On September 1, a strike was even started, where an insane number of streamers simply skipped their stream. They wanted to send a signal to Twitch that the hate raids can’t go on like this.
- Now the hate raids are back, but this time they are exclusively real people behind the accounts. They send trans-hostile and racist messages in the Twitch chats. Moreover, they come from an external livestream platform “cozy.tv” (via Twitter). This was founded in 2021 by Nick Fuentes, a far-right white nationalist.
CEO Nick Fuentes celebrates his platform’s hate raids.
What does the founder of cozy.tv say? Nick Fuentes made a statement after the situation was brought to his attention. He wore a big grin on his face while saying metaphorically:
Hmm, it’s so delicious. I eat it all up. It’s so delicious for me to see: The panic gripped transsexual individuals boiling over with rage. The panic gripped leftists when there is no moderator, admin or report button or support ticket to follow. There’s something about it that makes it so fulfilling and soothing.
Fuentes said he was thrilled that nothing could be done about it and that there were no moderators for his livestream platform. He went on to say that he was totally proud of his platform and was amused that people now have to crawl to him.
Cozy.tv has now added a report button, he said. These reports are “taken very seriously, of course,” Fuentes quipped, and “they are definitely not deleted directly.”
Reports of hate raids have also been received by the “moderation team”, however the users who sent these raids have not violated any guidelines of the platform, no action will be taken.
What does Twitch say about the new hate raids from cozy.tv? Twitch has gone to Twitter spoke out and emphasized that hate has no place on the platform. Furthermore, the Twitch accounts created by those who participated in the hate raids were banned. In addition, Twitch will take legal action against all those involved in the incident.
