GameStar and MeinMMO are media partners of this year’s league for Rainbow Six: Siege in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We will report regularly on the league, games and teams on our websites and channels in the coming weeks and months.

Why should I watch the league? The GSA League features amateurs and young professionals, some of whom have little experience with e-sports themselves. You can watch them grow and gain experience together with them or learn from their mistakes.

The GSA League is thus closer to the players than one of the international professional tournaments, whose skill no “casual” and hardly any competitive player will ever reach. Instead of the “best of the best,” you’ll see freshmen on their way up.

At the same time, there are also well-known teams like G2 Esports and Rogue, which are even known worldwide and have been able to achieve victories. This makes for a unique mix that can be really rewarding to watch:

  • Competitive players and casuals can take a closer look at the gameplay and problems of the amateurs and newcomers and learn from them.
  • Experienced players can see what they can do better from the pros – especially when a pro team is up against a newcomer
  • Matches take place one night a week, so even if you’re short on time, you can watch or watch the videos
  • On MeinMMO and GameStar you will also find the most important information and summaries on a regular basis.
  • The entire league will be broadcast in German

Already in GSA League 2020, players could learn a lot from the pros and amateurs – such as team play, the most important aspect of Rainbow Six Siege. One of the pros from Rogue, for example, explained in an interview how to actually win every round.

Watch on Twitch – What you need to know

Here’s what you can watch on GSA League: The GSA League features teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland competing over several weeks for victory and a €40,000 prize pool.

Among them are well-known names such as G2 Esports, one of the best-known e-sports organizations in the world, but also smaller teams and absolute newcomers who have managed to qualify for the tournament.

The most successful newcomer who does not yet play in the professional league will also get a place in the European League. The tournament kicks off on April 9, and from then on you can watch the teams battle it out for place over 14 match days and weeks.

Where can I watch? All matches will be streamed live on the official Rainbow Six German Twitch channel (via Twitch).

How can I prepare myself? Basically, you don’t need much prior knowledge to have fun at the GSA League. The experts will guide you through everything that is difficult to understand and help you to understand analysis correctly.

Still, it’s helpful to know at least the basics of Rainbow Six and tactical shooters. That way you’ll learn more and improve just by watching. For preparation you can find some useful guides here:

German pros and newcomers in the €40,000 tournament

What is the GSA League anyway? The GSA League is the successor of the Nationals and the “Clash of Nations”, which represented the regional tournaments for the DACH area until 2019.

As a “minor” tournament, the GSA is smaller than the big “major” or “premier” tournaments like the Six Invitational or the Pro League. A brief summary of the differences:

  • At the Six Invitational, teams from around the world qualify in their respective regions and compete once a year for millions in prize money
  • The Pro League has divisions in the various regions and is now held semi-annually. The teams qualify and the top two from each region play in the finals
  • The GSA League is only held in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The participants must be from Europe and there are certain rules for their residences in these countries

This makes the GSA League special: In the GSA League, you’ll see not only world-famous professional teams, but also players who could be your neighbors. Newcomers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland compete against each other and against the “big guys”.

This makes it easier to find access to e-sports or to identify with the teams. They are not as “unreachable” as the pros, but could be the friends with whom you also always play together.

With new teams qualifying for the GSA League every year, you can use the matches to prepare and compete yourself in 2022 if you dare.

Schedule, tournament rules and prize money

When do the matches take place? The first match day will take place on Friday, April 9, 2021. From then on you can enjoy an evening with four matches every week on Thursdays:

  • The stream always starts at 17:00 with the Weekly Breach, the pre-show.
  • The matches start at 18:00
  • There are 14 match days with first and second legs
  • The last matchday is August 5, 2021
  • The matchdays will be followed by the final games of the top four teams in the playoffs

Note: Due to a Corona case in the production team, the second game day has been postponed for the time being (via Twitter). We have entered the new dates for the respective match days in the table for you.

What is the Weekly Breach? In the Weekly Breach, R6S experts summarize the last game day, explain particularly strong plays and give their predictions for the following games.

You will also see regular interviews with players and coaches of the competing teams to get a deeper insight into the process.

What are the rules? Teams compete in best-of-1 matches on a map and play to seven round wins. A draw is no longer possible in the 2021 rules, so there is always a clear winner and loser.

The map is decided by bans by the teams before the round. In the round, both teams then ban two defenders and two attackers each. After the selection of the operators, each team has the possibility to change one of their operators with a “Sixth Pick”.

Operators are the playable characters in Rainbow Six Siege. Each of them has its own loadout of weapons and gadgets, as well as special abilities that set it apart from the others. The large selection of operators makes it possible to have many different combinations and synergies that the teams must react to.

What is being played for? There will be a total prize pool of €40,000, which will be divided among the teams:

  • 1st place: €10,000
  • 2nd place: 8.000 €
  • 3rd-4th place: €5,200
  • 5th place: €4,000
  • 6th place: 3,200 €
  • 7th place: 2.400 €
  • 8th place: 2.000 €

So taking part yourself is worthwhile. The amateur team that performs best also gains access to the EU League, the professional league in Europe.

Teams, ranking and table of the GSA League

These teams compete: A total of eight teams were invited or managed to qualify for the GSA League 2021. Among them are well-known names from international e-sports:

  • G2 Esports
  • Sissi State Punks
  • Ovation eSports (previously: Looking for Org)
  • Team Secret
  • GOSKILLA
  • GC Esport
  • Rogue
  • PENTA

G2, Team Secret and Rogue are well-known professional teams that participate in international tournaments themselves. Those who have already followed the GSA League 2020 might also recognize some of the players from GOSKILLA, PENTA and the Sissi State Punks. Denis “BZ” Duplijak, Taha “Sadrzm” Yumak or Daniel “Exp0” Massierer play there, for example.

More about the teams and the players can be found on the website of the GSA League.

This is how the ranking looks like: We have included the current table for you here:

  • 1st place: G2 Esports – €10,000
  • 2nd place: Sissi State Punks – €8,000
  • 3rd place: GoSkilla – €5,200
  • 4th place: Rogue – €5,200
  • 5th place: Team Secret – €4,000
  • 6th place: GC Esport – 3,200 €
  • 7th place: PENTA Sports – 2.400 €
  • 8th place: Ovation eSports – 2.000 €

PENTA Sports and Ovation eSports are now in the relegation. So they have to qualify again for the GSA League 2022. All other teams will automatically receive an invitation.

For Sissi State Punks, the placement means promotion to the EU League in addition to the prize money. So the team can participate in future professional tournaments of the higher league.
