Austria’s biggest e-sports event is taking place next week. The A1 Austrian eSports Festival is set for Saturday, June 18. Up to 5,000 gaming enthusiasts will be able to watch the 40 best e-sports players from German-speaking countries compete in the final rounds live on site and on large screens at the Austria Center Vienna. They will be competing for a total of 14,000 euros in prize money.
The more than 3,000 square meter hall in the Austria Center will be transformed into an e-sports and gaming arena for one day. A supporting program specially designed for the topics of gaming and e-sports will also guarantee fun and variety for all guests around the final rounds. A highlight on the sidelines of the tournaments will be the performance of the Austrian DJ and Eurovision Song Contest participant Lumix.
The professionals will compete in the following games: “Valorant”, “League of Legends”, “Brawl Stars” and “Teamfight Tactics”. For those who don’t just want to watch, but also get into the fray themselves, there will be separate community tournaments. Among others, the titles “Super Smash Bros Ultimate”, “Magic: The Gathering”, “Warhammer 40k” and “Warhammer Underworlds” will be played.
“The A1 Austrian eSports Festival offers a unique opportunity for all dedicated e-sports players and for all fans as well as for the community of Austrian e-sports to fully immerse themselves in this world and to be more than just present,” explains Manuel Haselberger, press spokesman of the eSport Verband Österreich (ESVÖ).
Fun from “Pac-Man” to “FIFA
The ESVÖ is also hosting the “E-Football National Qualifier”, which will decide which e-sportsman will represent Austria at the European and World Championships in Montenegro and Bali. The E-Federal League will also offer an extensive on-site program featuring the popular soccer simulation “FIFA”. The Drone Champions League will bring virtual drone racing to try out. There will also be a dedicated arcade zone. “Pinball,” “Pong” or “Pac-Man” offer retro gaming for young and old. Well-known influencers, streamers and community stars from the German-language e-sports scene have already announced their presence at the festival, including Veni, Zescht, JustBecci and JoJonas.
After numerous pandemic online events in the past two years, an e-sports event will once again take place live and without restrictions. The strongest teams include Unicorns of Love, Eintracht Frankfurt, Austrian Force and the Sissi State Punks. According to Haselberger, the level of play in the current – Season is exceptionally high. “Both established and growing titles have taken a step forward this year. At the same time, Austrian players and clubs are showing that they can keep up with international competition.”
Play and network
He is looking forward to the E-Sport Festival, which will give the Austrian scene an opportunity to meet, exchange and network live with each other again. “But also families and all those interested in gaming and e-sports are explicitly invited to get to know the versatility of games and tournaments and to learn about e-sports in Austria,” says Haselberger.
The trained e-sports referees of the ESVÖ will take care of the organization and implementation of the tournaments as well as the supporting program at the Austria Center. And they will also be happy to answer any questions guests may have about e-sports in Austria, the course of the e-sports tournaments, the game modes played or any community highlights taking place. Tickets for the event on June 18 are already available in advance at esportsfestival.at.
