The deciding factor between Pay2Win and non-Pay2Win in many Free2Play games is “Is the item only cosmetic or does it bring a gameplay advantage?” It’s just stupid when a cosmetic used at the right time changes the victory conditions in your favor – such as in Fortnite.
If there’s one term that Free2Play game developers hate, then it will be Pay2Win. If this term is mentioned anywhere even once in connection with your game name, the lights may go out right away. Especially MMO fans, but also a lot of other online gamers react almost allergic to the term Pay2Win and give a wide berth to a game that has been classified as such by others.
That’s why developers always emphasize in their affordable store offers that they’re about cosmetics – items like gestures, for example, that look nice but have no effect on gameplay … actually. But what if the timing is right?

When the cosmetic emote becomes a Pay2WinMote
Destiny players already know this. In the past, there have often been emotes that have already undermined boss mechanics of the fight in PvE battles against raid bosses. And also Epic’s Battle Royale Fortnite (buy now €18.99 ) Is immune to such happenings. Under the title “The store says that emotes have no advantages, right?” Fortnite fan Ryzii_Mode has shared a video clip from a match that shows very special moves.
According to Ryzii_Mode’s own statements, the emote Board Flair from the Chloe Kim set was not even triggered intentionally, but rather accidentally in the heat of the 1on1 battle against his only remaining opponent. Accidentally or not, the emote seems to affect the player character’s hitbox in such a way that the opponent was unable to hit Ryzii_Mode and Ryzii_Mode, who was already in dire straits by that point, was able to secure the kill instead. Smooth move! I wonder if the folks at Epic Games think they need to adjust the emote because of this scene…?
