Fortnite players want old llamas back: “They are a trap” – eSportsNews eSports Fortnite

After about half a year, players in have apparently had enough of escaping llamas. They ask: Can we please have the old ones back?

What are Loot Llamas?

Loot lamas have been around in Fortnite since 2018. They serve a similar function as the normal loot boxes, but are significantly rarer. In addition, they mainly offer support items such as building materials, potions, ammunition and the like in rough quantities.

Especially in late stages of a Battle Royale round, this can be pretty damn useful.

There used to be 3 llamas per match standing around on the map waiting to be found. If you had caught one, you had to take some time to open them – but at least that was done silently. But for the start of – Season 7 – Chapter 2 in summer 2021 a change was made.

Not only could you now find more llamas per match – they also take off!

That changed with the llamas:

Whereas before the change the llamas were simply rare, stationary special crates, now they are living creatures that startle when you approach them. Then they hop off and try to escape the loot-hungry players.

In this case, the only thing left to do is to shoot at the living piñata until it is defeated and drops all its loot.

  • Quite helpfully, the llamas keep dropping items for you to bag while you’re still escaping. You can also easily track them with the audio visual.
  • However, you have limited time to catch the llama from the start of the chase. If you take too long, it teleports away and is gone forever.

In addition, the llamas have quite a lot of health points and can eat up a lot of ammunition. All in all, they are much more difficult to use than before – Season 7 – Chapter 2.

And that seems to piss off some players in the meantime.

Criticism of fleeing llamas – Are they too “dangerous”?

What the community says:

The Fortnite subreddit (via reddit) is currently discussing a post with over 2,000 upvotes and more than 250 comments, whose title is “Can we finally have the old Loot-Lamas back?”.

User “CorbinMar” criticizes several points of the current llamas there. You would need too much ammunition to finish them off and would also attract other players in the attempt. In the worst case, you can hardly fight them if you have just used your ammunition on the llama, but it has teleported away at the last moment (via reddit).

There is a lot of support for the post in the comments:

  • “Yes, they are a trap. Just leave them out,” writes one user (via reddit).
  • “I used to open llamas before they started moving. But now I don’t even bother. I just get sniped or dismembered by the MK7 while I’m hunting them,” “Sk49captain” has had a bad experience (via reddit).
  • “The idea of taking a risk and getting loud to make prime prey is great. The problem is that the loot in the llamas is never worth it,” criticizes user Kazehana_3 (via reddit).
  • “It was fun at , not so fun the second time around, and after that it was just annoying. It’s even worse when they suddenly teleport to nowhere. I don’t know why that even exists,” says user pizzaredditor (via reddit).

How do players solve the problem?

While many players say they’d rather save the llamas now, some write that they still find the loot exciting enough to take the risk.

One solution to the “escape problem” is to sneak up and then quickly a cage around the Loot llama using construction materials. However, this is not very easy for beginners and in the worst case the llama can still escape fast enough before you have made your box.

Another solution is to limit yourself only to the loot that the llama drops while escaping and not shoot at it at all. But then you only get a fraction of the possible loot.

What’s your take on this? Do you think the current Loot-Lamas are good or would you rather have the old variant back? Tell us in the comments!

At the same time, another, fresher item is very popular right now. So popular, in fact, that Fortnite players don’t want to part with it.
