There’s been one big issue in Fortnite for years: the building system. Some players say, “I’d actually be good at Fortnite, but I absolutely can’t handle building. Time and again, there are now signs that Epic Games is listening to these players. However, this is criticized by hardcore players. Now it’s about a new weapon, which is already being criticized as a “casual weapon”.
This is the reason conflict in Fortnite:
- The shooter Fortnite: Battle Royale is actually a standard “battle royale” – 100 people land, the game area gets smaller and smaller due to a “fog” that invades from the outside. Whoever is left at the end wins. The game was pulled up in 2 months in 2017 by the “Unreal Tournament” team at Epic Games.
- But Fortnite: Battle Royale descended from a PvE game, from “Fortnite: Save the World”, there you could build and change the environment similar to Minecraft. Epic Games has adopted this idea for the shooter: Players can raise walls, build stairs, and protect themselves from enemies.
- This “building” is what separates the best players in Fortnite from poor to mediocre rivals. But it also “limits” Fortnite’s player base. If you can’t handle building, you won’t succeed in Fortnite and will quickly become frustrated. Now there are more and more signs that Epic Games is accommodating the “non-builders”.
Fortnite nerfs turbo building – top players get really upset.
Dataminer finds new gun that does a lot of damage to buildings
What is this new gun?
The well-known dataminer and leaker HypeX reports that Epic is working on a new “anti-construction” weapon of rare quality – possibly it’s a pistol.
- The weapon shoots very slowly – only 1 shot every 2 seconds.
- But does high damage: 75 normal, 113 as a headshot.
- Most importantly, the weapon is extremely strong against buildings, with 400 building damage.
Here’s how to discuss it:
The weapon is seen as a “casual weapon” to help players who can’t build.
- One user says, “I’m done with Fortnite. There are too many items coming to help bad players.”
- “Sounds like a casual’s dream, and a sweet nightmare.”
- “It’s just the opposite: people with skill will use the weapon to destroy casuals.”
This is behind it:
This is an important point for Fortnite: how to excite the players who can not build, but without alienating existing fans?
The discussion of how “casual-friendly” Fortnite should be has been around since 2018, with certain types of vehicles and aircraft, or types of weapons like shotguns, the sword, or the boom bow, always being maligned as “casual.” There was a time when Fortnite pros complained by the hour about Epic Games’ patch policy, saying they were making the game “too easy.”
Epic Games, however, tended to listen to the many players who played Fortnite little, rather than the few players who played it a lot. This has always been a struggle of design politics.
Also generating a lot of buzz is the idea of introducing a limited-time mode where you simply can’t build:
You hate to build in Fortnite? No problem, possible “no build mode” could appear.
