Fortnite: Battle Royale is now No Build

In the has come true what many fans of the survival shooter have been wishing for years: No Build rules. So you don’t build any covers against other players’ attacks, but have to make do with what the map has to offer. No Build is the dominant theme of Fortnite Chapter 3 – Season 2 … yet the discussion has already had a firm grip on the comment columns and forums for years. After all, it’s often this basic core mechanic, building, that spoils the mood for many players. Because they may be good at shooting, but the build meta is another thing all its own.

Building has always been controversial

As mentioned earlier, building in Fortnite is one of the standout features that sets the battle royale shooter apart from others. If the developers of the original zombie survival game hadn’t allowed building in Battle Royale mode, Fortnite probably wouldn’t have been much more than another PUBG clone with refreshing, fun comic book visuals. But since then, there have always been the fans of the idiosyncratic build feature and the opponents. After all, if you don’t master the build game, you’ll usually get destroyed. Mastery of this discipline separates the casual chaff from the hardcore wheat.

The thing is: There are many fans and many influencers who are now convinced that Fortnite has never been better in no-build mode. The famous Fortnite streamer Ninja and his colleague Tfue, even Dr Disrespect and one of the biggest Twitch streamers, Pokimane, are absolutely thrilled – blown away.

Is this a dilemma for Epic?

Raises the question, however, of whether Fortnite will have a problem if the basic “build” mechanic goes away. Surprisingly, that doesn’t seem to be the case, because over all these years, the developers at Epic Games have refined the gunplay so that it clearly stands out from other Battle Royales.

The no-build mode makes the divide between build fans and build haters seem less glaring, meaning: as a casual, you’ll see chances again even against frequent players, because it’s no longer about who can knock a mansion out of the ground for protection in a split second. On the other hand, the encounters are more aggressive: Stalking behind protective walls is no longer necessary; now it’s all about skill with weapons.

Still, there are those Fortnite players who find that Fortnite in No Build isn’t Fortnite – if you want to play a Fortnite without building, there’s plenty of Battle Royales out there you could play instead. But is that what you want when you’ve grown accustomed to Fortnite’s unique look and feel? Either way, Epic’s developers are in a dilemma: whether they keep the no-build mode permanent or turn it off again, there will always be players who are bothered by the decision.
