After several rumors #EA has now created facts. After FIFA23 there will be no new FIFA. Instead, EA renames its #Soccer games. What does this mean for the fans?
Since year 1993, the US game maker #ElectronicArts has a licensing agreement with the global soccer federation FIFA and is allowed to offer soccer games with the FIFA name. In December 2021, we reported that EA was considering renaming its soccer games in the future, as the company had stated via press release. Meanwhile, #AndrewWilson, CEO of EA has officially confirmed that there will be no new FIFA games from 2023. In the summer of 2023, there should be more information about the new soccer game.
What should EA Sports FC have to offer?
EA Sports FC will take the place of FIFA in the future. According to publisher Electronic Arts should hardly change anything for soccer fans. Thus, the successor to FIFA 23 will also offer more than 30 licensed lies with 700 licensed teams and 100 different stadiums. Thus there are license agreements with more than 300 individual partners. In addition to the edition for PC, Playstation 5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, the mobile spin-offs for iPhones and Android will also be rebranded. EA Sports FC will be the only video game where players can participate in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Copa Libertadores. In addition, the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga (1st and 2nd Bundesliga) and Italy’s Serie A, among others, will complement the upcoming soccer game.

Before EA Sports FC takes to the pitch next year, FIFA enters the stage once again in the fall of 2022. FIFA 23 will be the successor to FIFA 22
and will be the last FIFA game. At the end of this year, the license agreement between the American publisher EA and the world soccer association FIFA expires. According to the New York Times, the world soccer federation is demanding $250 million for a new licensing agreement. As a result, EA would have to pay twice as much for the naming rights as it has so far. EA is not willing to extend the licensing deal with FIFA. In the press release, Wilson thanks FIFA for the great partnership and at the same time announces that he wants to offer the soccer audience even more innovative and authentic experiences. According to rumors, the soccer association has given clear guidelines on what EA is allowed to do with the FIFA brand name and what is forbidden. So after 30 years of partnership, FIFA games are coming to an end.Collection to the successor of FIFA:
- EA CEO Andrew Wilson has officially announced that FIFA 23 will be the publisher’s last FIFA game.
- From 2023, the FIFA series will be replaced by the new soccer game EA Sports FC.
- Although the licensing agreement with the World Football Association will not be renewed, EA Sports FC is also expected to offer over 30 licensed leagues with 700 teams. These include the Premiere League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A, among others. In addition, EA Sports FC will be the only video game officially licensed for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, as well as the Copa Libertadores.
