Final version now live for all players – eSportsNews eSports StarCraft

After had already made its RTS classic 1 available on the Public Test Realm, it is now going live. With the now released patch 1.18, the Starcraft Anthology is officially playable for free. A paid remastered version will follow in the summer.

Blizzard has made good on its announcements and made Starcraft 1, including the add-on Brood War, commonly referred to as the Starcraft Anthology, available as a free download. The classic from 1999 can thus be played for free. In addition to a Blizzard account, this also requires patch 1.18, the patch in eight years for the real-time strategy game. Among other things, it provides a window and full-screen mode, a watch mode, the automatic saving of replays and other improvements, including compatibility with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. The only known bug mentioned is the currently unavailable profile area.

The Starcraft Anthology was only removed from the Blizzard Store in March and was available at a price of around 15 Euros until then. Technically, the revamped Starcraft Anthology is based on an enhanced OpenGL backend that works better with Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Starcraft Remastered will then be released in the summer – the new version will include UHD graphics, cutscenes in 1080p and massively reworked audio.
