The POTM program has been part of the popular game mode FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and spits out monthly special cards for professionals from the major European soccer leagues. Before the release of “FIFA 23” there are the first community votes.
FIFA 23: What is a POTM?
POTM stands for Player of the Month, meaning Player of the Month. Every month, EA Sports lets its fans, in partnership with the Premier League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A, vote on which footballer deserves this title based on his real-life performances over the past four weeks. The winners of these votes each win a POTM special card in FUT, which users can then earn in the game. These are often quite powerful objects – especially if the professional in question wins the title several times and thus improves his existing card mightily.
FIFA 23 Ligue 1 POTM: Candidates for August 2022
- Lionel Messi – Paris Saint-Germain
- Florian Sotoca – RC Lens
- Neymar Jr. – Paris Saint-Germain
Except for a 1-1 draw at AS Monaco, super club Paris Saint-Germain had a smooth start to the – Season in the French league. Lionel Messi contributed with three goals and four assists. His teammate Neymar has even better numbers: He scored seven times in the five games in August and set up six more goals – against Monaco it was his goal that saved PSG from defeat.
Against the two legends is Florian Sotoca set up. The Frenchman has five successful finishes to his name, including all three goals in the 3-2 – Season opener against Stade Brest. He also has two assists to his name. Will that be enough against the star power of Neymar and Messi?
EA Sports has meanwhile confirmed that the winners of the election for August 2022 will not get a POTM special card in “FIFA 23”. Thus, the first cards of this kind will be given to the winners of the votes for September, which will take place in early October 2022 and after the release of the game.
