Marc Overmars’ iconic card will be suspended in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team after reports of “inappropriate messages” from the now former Ajax Amsterdam sports director came to light.

What’s going on in FIFA 22:

In FIFA 22 players just find the official news that Marc Overmars will be suspended in Ultimate Team.

• Overmars’ icon cards will no longer be found in packs
• Overmars will also be locked in draft mode, where you line up a selection of random cards
• In SBCs Overmars will be unavailable as well

However, as with other cards in the past, this also means that players who already have Overmars on their team will be able to keep the card.

In previous cases, it happened that the prices of blocked or removed cards skyrocketed on the transfer market. However, EA is putting a stop to that: The transfer market price ranges of the card have been fixed until further notice, so that they can not be traded too expensive.

Who is it really about?

Marc Overmars is a former Dutch footballer who won the Champions League with top club Ajax Amsterdam, among others, and later played for Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona.

After his active career, he moved into an official role at Ajax Amsterdam and was appointed the club’s sporting director in 2012.

Therefore he is now removed from FIFA 22:

Harassment allegations arose against Marc Overmars, with which the sports director was confronted. In the meantime Overmars has resigned from his position at Ajax Amsterdam: “The reason for his decision to leave the club is a series of inappropriate messages he sent to several female colleagues over a longer period of time,” the club writes about this in an official statement (via ajax.nl).

In the same message, Overmars asks for apologies and stresses to be ashamed of his behavior: “Last week I was confronted with reports about my behavior. And how it has affected others. Unfortunately, I did not realize that I had crossed a line with it, but that was made clear to me in recent days,” Overmars said, “I apologize for that. Certainly this behavior is unacceptable for someone in my position. I realize that now, too. But it’s too late. I see no other option than to leave Ajax.”

Former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, himself an icon in FIFA 22 and now managing director at Ajax, also spoke out, saying, “A safe sporting and working environment is very important. We will pay even more attention to that in the near future. Marc and I have played together since the early 1990s, first at Ajax and then in the national team, and we have been colleagues in Ajax’s management for almost ten years. That has now come to a very abrupt end.”

This is not the first time a card has been suspended in FIFA. Just a few days ago, another player, Mason Greenwood, was removed after allegations of abuse against him surfaced.
