Y’all gonna hate me, but this is real talk. N’Golo Kanté and Giorgio Chiellini don’t deserve an upgrade for FIFA 22 ! The two world stars just played a strong CL final and a good European championship – nothing else. But we will look at that in detail.
N’Golo Kanté is one of the most popular players in football. The 1.68 meter tall Frenchman is just too likeable not to love him. On the other hand we have the gruff Chiellini, full-blooded Italian and the best defender of the EM 2021. As popular as both are at the moment, my take is hot: Both are not allowed to receive an upgrade in FIFA 22.
FIFA 22 ratings: N’Golo Kanté and Chiellini must not be upgraded!
First things first: FIFA ratings are always subjective. Every year we criticize EA for their player ratings – and rightly so. What EA did with the Bayern ratings in FIFA 21 is just cheeky. As reigning Champions League champions, Bayern Munich was rated so poorly simply because Bayern have an exclusive deal with FIFA opponents PES (now eFootball) .
For the upcoming FIFA 22 we will have to criticize EA if N’Golo Kanté and Giorgio Chiellini would get an upgrade.
N’Golo Kanté is not allowed to get an upgrade in FIFA 22
Everyone loves N’Golo Kanté, the reserved and always fair Frenchman, who simply plays his game in midfield without attracting much attention, but who has an all the greater impact. At the Champions League final in 2021 he was the outstanding man at Chelsea, there was no way around him. Respect for this achievement! But we must not be blinded by this hype. An outstanding game must not give a player an upgrade for the next FIFA.
FIFA 22: That’s why N’Golo Kanté can’t get a rating upgrade
Kanté has played a solid 2020/2021 Premier League – Season . Solid. It was nothing more. In his defence, Chelsea have also played really badly under Frank Lampard. Unfortunately, Kanté cannot be defended either. It only got better with Thomas Tuchel as the new coach. It even got so good that Chelsea won the Champions League. And that with this cucumber troupe! Tuchel is really a machine…
But back to Kanté. A bad six months, a solid second half of the – Season and a strong CL final are never enough for an upgrade in FIFA 22 ! I would probably be okay with Kanté retaining his current 88 rating. I wouldn’t mind a small downgrade either. An upgrade would just be fan service to the community, Kanté didn’t deserve it. And again: I celebrate him too. But rationally speaking, a rating upgrade would just be nonsense…
Giorgio Chiellini is not allowed to get an upgrade in FIFA 22
Giorgio Chiellini has become a real meme since the EM final. The way he holds Saka by the jersey, how he pinches and hugs Jordi Alba – simply legendary. In general, Chiellini played an outstanding EM and carried his Italians to victory with his mentality. Unfortunately, the same applies here as with Kanté: That is never enough for a rating upgrade in FIFA 22!
FIFA 22: That’s why Chiellini can’t get a rating upgrade
Chiellini only made 17 appearances for Juventus in Serie A in the past – Season , which has a significant impact on the FIFA 22 rating . Unfortunately , the now 36-year-old was often injured . EA quite often downgrades aging and injured players – and so will Chiellini. In addition, Juventus has played the worst – Season in recent club history. Under Andrea Pirlo, the “Old Lady” was only fourth! In addition, Juventus have conceded an untypical 38 goals, which is never a good sign for a central defender like Chiellini. I’m sorry, but Chiellini will not get a rating upgrade in FIFA 22 with the best of intentions.
