We are eagerly waiting for more leaks about FIFA 22. According to rumors, FIFA 22 will not get a completely new engine, but will continue to run on the Frostbite engine. However, it is said that version 3.0 will now be updated to 4.0. Developer DICE might comment on this at the EA Play.
The first leaked documents with information about FIFA 22 have shown that EA still sees FUT as the cornerstone of the FIFA series. However, there will likely be changes to Ultimate Team.
Here’s what’s expected to change with Ultimate Team
The rewards in the Weekend League are now regulated differently: You now get specific players and the higher the rank, the better the player.
The Weekend League will have less than 30 games from now on.
In FUT Champs and Rivals there is now a so-called “two-tier system”, for which you have to qualify every week via the Weekend League. You will have 5 games and must win 3 of them to qualify. Each week you can participate 3 times in the qualification.
FIFA 22 Beta leak: First gameplay changes announced
Well-known FIFA leaker ‘ KingLangpard ‘ on Twitter and various Reddit posts reveal details about the FIFA 22 beta.
North American testers have played FIFA 22 and noticed gameplay changes. In defense, you can switch between the next three players by pressing R3. These players have an arrow above their head, and moving the right stick in their direction will switch players. You can still switch between players by pressing R1.
Also, the summoning of the second defender has been toned down. When controlling a defender and pressing R1, a green arrow appears above the charging player’s head. This arrow goes out after about 3-4 seconds and at the same time the player stops supporting the defender. Sounds like the timing is much harder, the summoned player leaves his original position and opens gaps in the defense.
Pressing has been toned down, crosses and headers are new meta
Pressing of the second player has been toned down. In FIFA, pressing R1 calls a second player to press. In FIFA 22, this player is marked, but the pressing subsides after about three to four seconds. Crosses and headers were of little use in FIFA 21, but that should change now. Crosses and headers seem to be becoming standard in FIFA 22.
Beta testers reveal even more changes
The Directional Nutmeg is rumored to be toned down, as it provided a speed boost in FIFA 21 that couldn’t be properly defended. We welcome that!
Also, there will probably be new stats in the game. Images have already surfaced (and useful ones have been deleted) showing a heat map. This map shows in which parts of the field most happened. There is also an “Expected goals” statistic. This is supposed to show which player created more big chances.
The tactics options might have been revised as well. Because a tweet from @ChampVG (244,000 followers) clarifies that settings like “Depth” or “Player in penalty area” are no longer defined with bars, but with values from 1-100. It remains to be seen what effect this will have, but it sounds like more room for tactical foxes.
Furthermore, new formations should be selectable in FIFA 22. This is especially interesting for FUT players. Three new variants are to be added. 5-4-1 (diamond) and 5-2-3 shall be implemented as well as the exciting 3-5-1-1 formation.

Defender Lucio, goalkeeper Iker Casillas and midfielder Wesley Sneijder could become icons in the upcoming FIFA. John Terry is also among the potential legends that could come. We are curious!
