In FIFA 22 we got a new SBC for Ultimate Team: You can complete a Mid Icon Upgrade Challenge. We want to show you if it’s worth it and how many coins you have to spend for the SBC.
The Team of the Year in FIFA 22 is slowly but surely coming to an end (it’s enough after 3 weeks, LoL), but what’s next? The Future Stars Event is in the starting blocks , but EA is also diligently bringing SBCs into the game.
So now the Mid Icon Upgrade has been dropped by the publisher after the Base or Mid Icon Upgrade had been available in FIFA 22 for some time . So today we’re looking at whether the new challenge is worth it at all and what are the best icons you can draw .
Mid Icon Upgrade SBC Overview
The Mid Icon Upgrade SBC is relatively short-lived – you can only complete it until February 12, 2022 . Of course, it can be repeated, so if you’re completely tempted by medium-sized icons, you can use an extremely large number of coins and players for it. You have to submit a total of four teams to the SBC , which you can see listed here:
Teams | Price Range | Rewards |
84-rated Squad | 35K-37K | Small Rare Mixed Players Pack |
85-rated Squad | 83K-86K | Prime Mixed Players Pack |
85-rated Squad | 87K-91K | Jumbo Premium Gold Pack |
86-rated Squad | 138K-148K | Prime Electrum Players Pack |
Completed Challenge | 350K-365K | Mid Icon Pack |
So you have to put a total of 350K coins on the table for the Mid Icon Upgrade SBC in FIFA 22. Honestly, that actually sounds like a reasonable price – agrees with the community. The packs that you get for each completed intermediate step are also nice. Of course, 99.999% of the time you don’t pull good players, but you’re always happy to take food for new SBCs with you.
Mid Icon Upgrade SBC – Which legends are worth it?
The best way to answer this question is to take a look at ALL the icons that appear in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team . In total there are now a whopping 105 pieces… every year some newcomers celebrate their debut .
Of course, the absolute highlights include legendary midfield and attacking players such as Ronaldo (R9), Zinedine Zidane, Pele, Johan Cruyff and Eusebio . If you pull one of the guys – who are absolutely meta again in FIFA 22, by the way – the SBC was so worth it.
Even with “average” players (no disrespect) like Wayne Rooney, Roberto Carlos or Kaká you still make a profit with the Mid Icon Upgrade Pack. Of course, there are also black sheep that are worth almost nothing , especially in the transfer market in FIFA 22 .
So if you’ve worked your way up to 350K coins pretty hard and don’t want to take any risks, you shouldn’t use the SBC . Otherwise, the price seems pretty fair at first and second glance. Good job, EA.
Is the Mid Icon Upgrade SBC worth it in FIFA 22?
As already mentioned, it depends on your financial situation in FIFA 22 . If the account is full, you will make a pretty safe profit if you complete the SBC several times. Of course, if it’s only enough for one degree, there’s a risk that you’ll pick Deco, Bobby Moore, or Jari Litmanen…

FIFA 22 – FUTs
What could be cooler than just relaxed gaming and doing some sofa sports on the side? In FIFA 22, the player is on the move fast, but without getting sore muscles. With the Ultimate Team Event cards, the collecting instinct is now also satisfied. However, the FUT Heroes keep creeping into my mind, so here are the best Ultimate Team Event cards that are definitely worth adding to your collection.
Heroes cards selected by EA for top qualities
Admittedly, the FUT heroes will cost quite a bit of coin, but it turns out that EA has once again brought some top-class players into the game when it comes to selection. As a collector and hunter, it’s an added attraction for FIFA gamers to now include their own favorite heroes in the portfolio and benefit from their individual skills. Both in the game and in team building, the FUTs will revolutionize the game once again.
EA SPORTS FC: FIFA GAME SERIES TO BE CONTINUED UNDER NEW NAME
Of course, the soccer simulation game series will not be discontinued completely. After FIFA 23, EA will relaunch the game under the name EA Sports FC and market it independently. Old FIFA hares should now become quite an ear, after all, the EA Sports Football Club used to be a part of the actual game for years. A lot of playing was rewarded, points could be collected and items, boosts or balls for the individual game modes could be unlocked.
In this context, there could also be a complete revolution of the classic game. There is a heated discussion in the FIFA community about whether the game, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will be free-to-play. This option is said to be on the table for the game makers from EA, because: It seems that EA earns most of its money with the purchases of FIFA Points in the game mode Ultimate Team and not with the sale of the game itself.
